I devoured my second chocolate glazed donut like I’d never eaten before.
“Get it, girl!” Maddie said.
She had a pair of obnoxiously large white sunglasses on even though we were inside a busy coffee shop, and her dyed purple hair pulled back in a messy bun. She wore a hot pink lipstick that stuck to the edge of the straw she was stirring in her iced coffee with more syllables than I could pronounce.
I licked the frosting off my fingers and asked, “What’s even in that thing?”
Maddie sapped from the straw and said, “It’s a nitro cold brewed pumpkin spice frappuccino with heavy cream, 4 pumps of caramel, and six sweeteners.”
I nodded, laughed, pulled another donut out from the box, and said, “Okay, so it’s a heart attack! Got it!”
Maddie snorted with laughter and sat back in her chair.
Her posture was rigid, and she wore an expensive white blouse and a gray pencil skirt.
