Kapitel 6: So It Begins (Part: 2)

After dressing into her uniform, Lira stood in front of the door still fiddling with it. It was a simple set of clothes, a black undershirt, a dark purple jacket, and black long pants.

While their boots were black and so we're the soaks. It looked good and felt really good as well.

Lira didn't have any restrictions wearing it, such as breathing or movement. She could easily move around in it and she had no issues breathing. The uniforms were also quite nice. Lira continued to fiddle with it until the door opened.

The previous guard stood in the doorway, staring down at Lira. "It's time to leave." He walked away without saying anything else, leaving the door open.

Lira pursed her lips and trailed after him. They walked through the nearly empty halls, the only sound being their boots tapping on the floor beneath them.

On their way, Lira and the guard passed a number of doors. Lira paid close attention to everything around her, making sure to map out the location. Because the guards would most likely detect it, Lira didn't disperse any of her World Even.

She could use it to map out the area much more efficiently and quicker than she could by walking around. Aether could do the trick as well, but she refused to use it.

Lira knew many ways to use air magic to help her, but she preferred to do so alone or when she had some free time. Either would suffice for her.

They arrived at a set of doors after a few minutes of walking. The guard took a step forward and pushed open the doors. Lira angled her head to the side of the man to get a better look at what was going on in the room.

When she saw so many children and circle desks, she frowned. There were about ten kids per desk, but Lira only received a few. Many of the others were children from different parts of the tower.

There were several people dressed in white uniforms, both male and female, similar the one Marry would wear. The guard looked at her and indicated to an open seat.

'I thought I left behind this school bullshit, God, or whoever reincarnated me, why! I'd rather be an orphan with no name than a lab rat.'

Lira walked over to it and took a seat. She sat back, crossing her right leg under her left. She looked around, noticing the children seated at her table.

Lira would sense some World Energy in them but none of them looked particularly special. She realized a long time ago that children adapt quickly to their surroundings and, with time, develop the ability to use World Energy.

Lily had only recently been born when she was exposed to Aether, so her body had no time to adjust. She was still perplexed as to how Aether got into her body. It could have been a coincidence, but that seemed unlikely.

Not long after Lira took her seat, the room's doors closed. A man approached the front of the room/class. He stood just over six feet tall, had long brown hair, and brown eyes. Although he was tall, he is was also quite smile with very little muscle.

The man had a stern expression on his face, as his gaze swept across the room.

"I'll begin by introducing myself. I'm Smith Aldin, and I'll be in charge of teaching you basic education and edict until you're five years old. However, for the time being, I will only speak about you.

You're all here because your parents either sold you or abandoned you in some backwaters orphanage. You are worthless; you could die tomorrow and no one would notice.

You're here because the crown has decided to give you a chance. If you fail, you will perish; if you succeed, you will be given the opportunity to leave this place. But make no mistake: you will always be the property of the kingdom.

When you reach the age of five, you will go through Bloodline Transfusion. It is a painful process that few make it through. While this is being done, we will assess your ability. You're in our hands until then."

'Damn, did you wake up alone this morning, Smith?' Lira had to fight the urge to make a sassy comment out loud.

After his brief speech, Smith moved away from the front and to one of the desks. His example was followed by the other adults.

After feeling someone poke her, Lira frowned and looked to the right.

A young boy who look a bit older than her sat to the side of her, he had dark cyan eyes and black hair. He blinked, then reached into his pocket.

"Hello." He spoke in hushed tones so that no one could hear him.

"Hi." Lira responded, resting her head on the desk and closing her eyes.

"So, what's the deal? Do you have a moniker?"

"Yes." Lira said before thinking.

'Now leave me alone, Goddamn it, I can't get anything out of talking to you.' Lira did very few things without a purpose.

Talking to this random boy was pointless to her, and in her situation, power was more important than anything else. She didn't even give this boy a chance.

"What is it?" He asked, leaning in slightly.

"It doesn't matter; now stop talking. Talk to another person."

"But those guys are boring. Oh, I have an idea. Why don't we be friends?"

"Do you go around making friends with everyone?" Lira stated. "Didn't Smith or whatever say no talking?"

She still had trouble speaking, when it came to that world's with U's.

"Nope." His head shook. "I don't talk to boring or stupid people."

'Hm?' Lira thought. 'That's odd. He appears to be a bit smarter than the others. I need to keep an open mind here; for all I know, this kid could be some genius.'

Lira had to assume that at least half of the children there had special backgrounds or were from unique places. Or, she could just be overthinking the situation.

However, it was good to proceed with caution, making a few allies would benefit her greatly. Lira wasn't dumb enough to think that she can do everything on her own in the future.

"So~, what is it." He asked again.

"Lira."

"Cool, mine is Seth."

Lira shrugged, closing her eyes and tapping her feet on the tiled floor, contemplating various ways she could use magic. Lira didn't have anything to jot down her discoveries on, so she had to remember them by heart.

It was different at first, but Aether and World Energy improved more than just her body. Her meditation practice was also beneficial. She was calmer than she had ever been.

She wished she had done it on Earth, but her focus was on the boy. Lira had a simple mindset pertaining to those things. To her, everyone had a use so everyone can be used.

She thinks of how she can use a person before anything else. She wasn't interested in making any friends because of her circumstances. If she was born into a normal family who lived on a farm then maybe.

After a bit a man came over to their desk. He set down a white sheet of paper, along with a pencil on the desk in front of each of the children.

"We will start with counting."

Learning to count all over again was easy for Lira, and buy easy she meant it took no effort. The numerals for numbers 0 to 9 were written very different.

Lira only needed to memorize them.

She excelled much faster than per pares did. Smith decided to teacher her inside. She sat with the others at her table but did completely different work.

She also learn the words for each number up to 20. Her only probably was learning the words for major numbers and how to same them. Lira wanted to seem valuable, not a monster.

Smith stood behind her watching her write numbers over and over.

'This one is quite smart, the day has yet to end and she is a ahead of every child here. She has a problem pronouncing the words though. I will have to let them know.'

Hours Later

Lira and her classmates were in a cafeteria around midday. They used to be served food in their rooms, but now they get to choose their own meals.

The cafeteria was quite large, easily accommodating a hundred people. Metal tables and chairs were scattered throughout the space.

A long metal table was connected to a glass screen on one side of the hall. The children would go there to get food, while the lab staff had their own quarters.

None of the staff interacted with any of the children outside of teaching or training them, in the case of the care takers, they watch over the children until the majority of them are three and a half years.

However, Lira wasn't really worrying about that stuff. Inside, while all the other kids were laughing and chatting, she was stuffing her face with food.

Most if not all of the children were unbelievably anxious about the whole thing. Some of them were sad about it, and some were too naive to know better.

Lira definitely had to give the higher-ups props for instilling that kind of mentality into them from young. How can they know what is right or wrong when they had no interactions with people outside of the tower.

For them, this is normal.

They realized that if they do what they are told, they live a better life. Even from a young age, self-preservation is always the top priority for all living beings, not just humans.

Lira is no exception to this, although she might end up killing herself from all the food she eats.

Lira sat in a desk at the farm corner of the hall by herself, with quite a bit if food on the table. She took a bowl of rice but a sigh came from her mouth.

She had hoped that the cafeteria would have some windows, but she was wrong.

She distracted herself with food and work in hopes of keeping her mind off of it.

Lira looked at the sheet of paper in from of her, she needed to memorize the new numbers quietly. Once that is done, she would focus on to the alphabet.

However, with her accent, it'll take more time for her to nail the pronunciation for the letters. She cursed her tongue many times in the past year.

She doesn't know how Marry does it, and why was she the only one that developed one similar to the woman's.

Her old roommates didn't have it, or at least not as intense.

'I wish I could talk to her, she could help me so much with this stuff. I doubt they would allow that though. And I still haven't decided on if I will try to escape with Marry or not.'

Lira almost hit herself for getting attached to that woman. She only needed to last for three years, but she failed. She knew Marry would become a burden in the future.

Lira could either take the risk or let the woman die, granting her no attachments and no way for people to threaten her in the future.

Marry isn't the type to want power or money, she just likes kids and taking care of them. This was common knowledge, but what stuck with Lira was why Marry was even there.

Why would a kindhearted woman who can't stand the sigh of blood or any gore work in a place like that. Lira needed to know before she came to her decision.

Luckily, she had quite some time before things go to shit.

She wanted to escape before the Bloodline Transfusion, but she would soon find out that time waits for no one, and sometimes it gets impatient.
