A burning pain consumed me as I thrashed about the bed. Pushing aside the blanket, I greeted the cold air on my sweat-stained skin with glee. 

Someone pressed a cold compress on my face, it felt like ice. I could even hear the sizzling as steam emitted. 

"Should she be this hot?" Lex's voice called out, making me twitch nervously. 

This entire time I slumbered I watched just over two decades of my life. My original life.

System had leaked some of the energy from the beast's core into my soul to strengthen me. The result was that lifetime, that one, short, painful lifetime.

It left me with the painful afterthought, what if I had to endure many more lifetimes of memories each time I took a shortcut for my strength?
