The two of them began to head towards the school where their siblings studied, and the both of them got down and ran towards the school gate, and requested the security to let them in. After checking his ID, they quickly let him in.
He followed Miranda as she ran across the corridors, navigating them swiftly and reaching their sibling's classes. The three of them then followed Jack, and all of them entered the car. Jack turned the ignition on and was about to move when a sound came.
'POP!'
And he felt his steering wobble towards the left, and he chuckled slightly as he veered the vehicle towards the right, and stopped the car. He looked at three of them and had a smile on his face as he pulled out his pistol.
"I am not going to lie and tell you everything is going to be okay. Right now, you are in extreme danger. And I would do whatever it takes to divert the said danger away from you. I need you to duck and hide under the seats until I come back. Can you do that?", he asked the kids.
Both of them looked towards their oldest sister, who was the only one who had a calm face during this whole situation. Her calm demeanor gave them a sense of confidence, and they nodded their heads sternly.
Jack adjusted the side mirror to guess where the shot was taken from. The moment he adjusted it, the mirror was shot and broken into pieces. He slicked his tongue in disappointment, as he had hoped to finish this off quickly.
"And they specifically targeted the one that would be on the outer side. What a bunch of calculated people", he thought as he adjusted the rearview mirror to take a look. The moment he turned his head towards the right side mirror, it was shot down and shattered to pieces.
He opened his door and waited for a shot to be taken, but there was none. There was a sense of pressure on him to keep the kids safe, and he needed to take them down too. He looked towards the parking section and saw a car parked a few hundred meters ahead of him.
"Damage to public property. I hope the bill will be covered by the Government", he chuckled as he jumped out of his seat and did a roll on the ground. A shot was fired right next to his feet, and the moment his feet touched the ground, he took off into a sprint.
His eyes were scanning the building, looking for a muzzle that might appear and take a shot at him. He was sure of one thing, and that was that the sniper had a silencer attached to it.
"Meaning, I won't be able to see a flash nor hear a sound. Only one way to find it out", he thought as he looked back at the car and the place where the bullet landed right next to his feet.
"Two side mirrors, and right when I jumped out. The angle and trajectory of the shot is suggesting that he might have shot from the building right to the opposite of the car. Now, I just need one more shot to be taken to find the exact spot from which he would have taken the shot", he thought and looked at his surroundings to use something to his advantage.
There was another side mirror of a motorbike that was quite a distance away from him, and he took a deep breath and crouched right behind the car. Tightening his calves, he lifted his butt and took the position of a track runner.
"Here I go", he thought as he sucked in as much air as he could, and pushed his foot into the ground, taking off into a high sprint. Meanwhile, his eyes were fixed on the building to find out where the shots were coming from.
After a few steps, right as he was about to place his fifth step, a shot was fired between his legs. Twisting his whole body on his right foot, a smile formed on his face as he began to run across the road. His eyes were fixated on a single window.
Just as he stepped towards the building, a shot whizzed past his cheek. A slight line was drawn, and he licked his lips and tasted his blood. He didn't stop moving, and a smile spread on his face.
"Now that's more of a challenge", he muttered as he ran across the road in a zig-zag fashion, which was one of the ways used to confuse a sniper from taking a good shot. But the one he was facing wasn't an ordinary one.
The moment he sidestepped as he ran, every shot was made to the mark. He didn't shoot to injure Jack, but all of them were accurate shots that were made to make him stop his movements and intimidate him.
He broke into the building and ran up the stairs, and his calves had begun to ache a little. He was giving it as much pressure as he could, and the boost was something that he needed. The more the pressure, the better he could make tight turns and dodge the bullets.
Just as he reached the door, he slammed into it right with his shoulder and broke the door open. He had his gun at level, and the sniper was the only thing he could see. He couldn't see anyone who was taking the shot, and a strong kick hit his forearm, making him lose his grip on his pistol.
A glint was all he could see in the dark room, and it was coming from a Fairbairn Sykes Commando Knife. Jack clicked his tongue as he pulled out his folding British Knife, as he knew it all came down to skill now.
"Any last words, Mediocre Detective?", came a rather raspy voice from the shadows. The glint was threatening him to end in a flash, but he felt his heartbeat get elated. With an adrenaline-filled smile, he gave a curt reply.
"I am no Mediocre Detective. I am Jack Brown, and I will become one of the most legendary detectives of all time", he said as he placed an underhand grip on his knife.
