"And what did you say?" Baba frowned when she heard that Matthew asked Ava to marry him.

"You don't look too happy," Ava responded. She sighed and turned her head away from the mirror. Now that she thought about it, she didn't have any friends that she could talk to about things like this.

Marylis, her sister-in-law, used to be close to her. Or at least that's what she thought. Now that Marylis wasn't showing any signs of improvement and her brother, Phil was still in that form, Ava couldn't help but feel lonely.

"Did you say, yes?"

"Look, I know that Matthew was like your son but I don't have anyone else to talk to," Ava explained. "I told him no." As expected, Baba's face changed. Relief flashed in her eyes. Seeing this, Ava didn't know what to say.

Why did she have to call her again?
