He had spent some time helping lost and stranded soldiers fight off their attackers and find their way to the base, but it was only today that the war really started for Gus. It was only after he led the statues into the outpost that the war had actually begun to feel like a war for him.

Right now, he was nowhere near as strong as the Evolved. He couldn't keep them alive just purely through his ability to fight alone, and he likely wouldn't be able to for some time yet. For now, he had to rely purely on his ability to make the right decision.
