Kapitel 101: Scouting the city
Waking up in the morning, the first thing I did was drink some cold water. My throat was parched. Like it was made out of actual cardboard. I had to drink water. But I had no way of knowing where do they get their water from.
I went to the kitchen to find a glass. After that, I created chilled water and poured it into the glass. Then I drank it.
I had to drink more than a liter of cold water. My brain froze for a bit. It was refreshing. What's the time? I haven't seen a clock since coming here.
"Aera, what is the time now?"
(It's 8 in the morning. You are up early considering that you slept late at night.)
Maybe I woke up because I was thirsty. Who knows? After washing the glass, I noticed. No one is home.
I go to back to my royal throne or my bed which is actually the couch. I find a note on the table.
"We are going out. Breakfast is on the table."
It said that. And everyone had signed it. I see Hazel, Aura, Eden, Fay and Fiona's signature on it.
They all went out. I go to the dining table and see a lot of food. Maybe Fiona mistook me for someone who eats a lot. I am not feeling that hungry. Then let's have breakfast with everyone. This much should cover it.
Aera, Aegis, Doris and lastly Amaryllis comes out.
"Let's eat breakfast."
"This is probably the first time I am ingesting something." (Aera)
"Yeah. It has been a while for me too." (Doris)
"I see. Then we need to find out your preferences so I can cook for you."
I say that. I haven't cooked in a while. I need to keep cooking or I will probably lose my skills.
After having a nice breakfast, we all take a short rest. Fiona isn't the head chef of the Royal Palace for nothing. Her way of cooking is different. She has mastered the art of cooking.
I just threw random ingredients together and heated them. Then I started experimenting. And finally, I started reading recipes. It all started from there. You can say that I cooked because I liked it. And I had to cook or else, what would I eat?
Enough chitchat, let's depart for our first task. I wanted to scout the city. So let's get going.
I get up and so do they. No, let's go solo today.
"I want you girls to hold the fort. I want to go alone."
"But master, if we are not with, who knows what you would do?" (Aera)
"Fair argument. We can't leave him to his own account." (Amaryllis)
"What am I? A walking disaster?"
"Even a disaster would look cute in front of you. You are a hazard." (Amaryllis)
"Okay, no need to be so serious. Fine, then one you will come. I don't have the keys to lock the house. I need someone to stay here. Who's coming?"
They whispered among themselves and Aegis coughed.
"After discussing among us, I will go with you master." (Aegis)
"Okay. Then hold the fort, you three."
"Yes, master."
They replied in a prolonged tone like children. I took Aegis and left.
I could have turned her into a pendant but I will let her human self out. They all should stay human most of the times. I keep them inside of my singularity because there isn't enough room for them.
As I want to scout the whole city, I should start from where I am. I leave the house and think.
I don't even know the shape of this city. I use <Spirit> to levitate. Aegis is holding my hand. People might notice us. So I use perception blocking magic. I didn't use Aegis. I could have put a perception blocking barrier but I want to get better at using my <Spirit>.
"Master, you could have asked me to block perception." (Aegis)
"I wanted to test my powers. If I don't use them, they will become unusable. Don't pout because of it."
Aegis is still pouting. After reaching a height where I could see the whole city from above, I stopped our ascent and came to a halt.
Both of us are standing midair. The view from up here is something. I can see the ocean. This world has too little landmass compared to its water body. Let's focus on the city for now.
The city is actually a square with rhomboid lake flowing through it. The lake isn't actually flowing through the town. It's encircling the castle. The rest of the town is normal.
I take another look. It's easy for someone to overlook some details the first time.
The castle isn't alone in that lake. There are many big mansions surrounding the castle. The so called upper town or you know, the place where the filthy rich gathers. In short, the noble town. It isn't small either.
I want to know the area of this city. How?
(This city is the capital after all. It's big. It's about 16 square kilometers in area. Pretty big.)
System, you ruined it. I wanted to know how big it is on my own.
(What's the harm! I only told you because I felt like it. Anyway, keep on searching. You might run into some familiar faces.)
She cut off our communication. She really likes that, suddenly talking and then disappearing.
I find Fiona's house. It really is in a corner of the city. The wall is thick. 3 people can walk side by side and would still have some space left. Maybe for soldiers to defend against the enemy before they reach the city.
Defense wise, it is almost perfect. I don't know if they have aerial combat or not but they can defend against attacks. That is, if only humans attack. Can't guarantee anything about monsters.
I descend into the city with Aegis and start walking. I have made sure to keep heading north from the gate. Fiona's house is east of this gate. That means, this gate is actually the south gate. This city has four gates.
Today, let's just head north. Adventurer's guild is also north of here. Then I will walk till the castle lake and head back. I don't feel the hurry to finish my adventure today. I can probably accept a quest at the end.
I explain my plan and set out with Aegis in tow. Take it easy, I tell myself.
