Diego’s POV

“Well, this is a downright trash heap, husband,” Penelope complained immediately upon entering the apartment.

My resolve was brittle, and my self-control was frayed. If it weren’t for the lack of weapons on my person, I wouldn’t have hesitated to put a bullet straight in between her overdrawn eyebrows.

“Penelope, I’m not in the mood,” I tiredly remarked holding my hand out, gesturing for her to take a seat in the chair that had not too long ago held Katie. My heart hurt too much to think about her absence. Forcing her out of my mind, I focused on the task at hand.

“Where’s that yummy little pet of yours, Diego? I totally enjoyed my conversation with her. It was a pity you had to storm in and interrupt it. I was hoping we might be able to pick it up where we left off,” Penelope taunted me.

“She’s no longer a concern of yours.” I felt my control slip, itching for a good excuse to end this woman.
