Kapitel 31: Bet

"Stay with me. I know that you do not have a Travel Stone, but you will not have to find such a rare item if you remain by my side. I will offer you the Starting Tower's services without any charges. I will give you the right to hunt in the territory if you leave the weaker monsters without much permission. As for resources, information, or anything you would ever need, I will give them to you. There are many things you have yet to see in the territory. And I know that this little town will one day become strong enough to dominate an entire region one day. With your potential, I know we can achieve that in less than ten years."

Isaac raised his level almost double in just two months. His arsenal was so vast and varied he could basically attack from all sides. His skills were top-notch. He could outpace even with a level deficit. He's not afraid of pain and risk and has the experience and the knowledge behind his words. He's not lacking in any way, and though they have not known each other for more than a few months,

'He's loyal to those he sees standing beside him.' Loyalty was hard to get. It would be weird if someone could present a surplus without reason, but Isaac was one such person. Yulia knew that gathering companion was paramount if she wanted to expand, but she couldn't just accept everyone. That's just asking to be stabbed in the back.

Though Yulia was egregiously lacking common sense, when logic, rationality, planning, and such things were added, she was not lacking. She may not be able to show much emotion, but she could draw despair from the eyes of those who stand in her way.

But Isaac sat there and looked over the horizon beyond the town, "Do you know what's beyond those mountains, Yulia?"

She did not expect such a question to come from him suddenly, but she responded nevertheless, "I suppose the Ravine of Death and the Elbarium Kingdom's Borders."

"Then, do you know what's beyond those two regions?"

"The Lone Emporium?"

"But what about beyond the Lone Emporium?"

"The Murky Sea."

"Ooooh, you even know about those? You sure are knowledgeable. But, here's my last question. In between those big all-encompassing landmarks, can you name all the lands that hold?"

"I can name a few, but who could truly know? Even the Great Scholars and Immortal Wanders could not detail everythi-" Yulia paused and returned to her seat next to Isaac, "You're not going to accept my proposition, are you?"

Isaac finished his bottle of wine and showed off a loose smile, "I have a dream, you know? Want to hear about it?"

"Mm." Yulia nodded, passing Isaac another bottle.

"I want to discover as many things as this world can offer me."

"Discover?" she did not expect him to say something so mundane and childish.

"What, did you expect I wanted to become the strongest? If that's the case, you'd be correct as well. My dream needs me to stand at the very top. I wanted to become the strongest once to prove that being born weak is no reason to remain at the bottom. Now, I want to become the strongest and discover everything I can.

"If you want to be strong, just go see every monster, increase your level, and curb stomp everyone after walking out of your solitary training. That might sound like an exciting thing to do, but it gets old fast after doing it ten times. So, this time, I want to fill my curiosity. I want to uncover as many truths as possible and feel the sense of discovery I have lost. So that I can see the beauty of a world that revolves around the concept of the strong trampling over the weak. To bear witness to the gem hiding underneath all the bloodshed.

"There are many people who want to create a future that allows children to laugh. As for me, I just want to show them its beauty. Not everything is black and white; under all the bloodshed, there is a pure adventure waiting behind all the schemes. There are wonders to be discovered. That there is a place where they can be free."

When Isaac was young, he once read an adventurer's journal. This journal was not that big or comprehensive; it simply detailed different things found in Arcadia.

Animals, locations, and unsolved mysteries it was written in these books. Isaac ran around the village that he would one day become the greatest and strongest adventurer on all the Continent.

But they laughed at his dreams. They told him that only someone with strength could traverse the world, that if Isaac did it, he would die after encountering a Horned Rabbit.

Well, their words weren't exactly baseless and just there to mock him. Isaac was so weak that a frog once beat him in a fight… a frog!

But their laughter did not kill his dream, for a fire burned inside his chest, and he screamed that he would do it. That he would become the strongest to see the wonders of the world.

Isaac wanted to one day fill the world with the same wonder he experienced when he was young. The glow of the wonder that would never leave their hearts and minds, he wants to do that for other people.

Yulia's stiff expression softened, "That's a good dream. Though I am confused."

"About what?" asked Isaac.

"If you want to discover things for your curiosity, or if it's for those who can't travel the world."

"Bah, who cares? A dream doesn't have to be too specific. For me? For others? Maybe a little bit of both?" Isaac had no idea either.

"Well, when you decide, you have to choose how you'd distribute your discoveries to the world.

Yulia added, already thinking ahead about how Isaac would be able to efficiently achieve his dreams.

"GAHAHAHA! I haven't thought of things that far ahead, so I have no idea." Despite his intelligence, Isaac had no idea.

"Then, how about writing a Journal?"

"A journal? That's a good one. There aren't people foolish enough to risk their lives just so they can see the mating dance of Sky Wyverns, so for those who are weak, I want to be the one to show them the world's beauty. Then again, writing is not my forte, so maybe I'll just hire a bard or tell them to my future kids, but I need to find a wife to have children. Though I have to find a lover first, get married, and some other things I need to do...." Isaac shuddered, remembering how his mother had pestered him to get married and give them a grandchild.

Isaac may be the strongest, but his mother's slippers or stick could still somehow hurt him.

And he could shrug off a tiger biting him as if it was a mosquito bite.

"Well, enough about me. What about you, do you have a dream? Well, except for turning the town into a Giant City."

"I don't know… maybe a Wife?"

"A wife, huh? welp, I feel sorry for your husband."

"Wha!? You don't know that!" Yulia shouted, "I can be a good candidate for a wife, you know!? I know a lot of things, so I can '"

"GAHAHAHA! You, cook? Other than hacking at monsters, I doubt you can use a blade for something else." Isaac rudely commented. He was a chef who prides himself in cooking, so he had high standards for what could be called cooking... and he was also drunk like never before, "Don't look down on cooking."

"I can do it!" Yulia shouted in frustration; she, too, was drunk.

"I'm a cook, so I know when someone can cook just by loo-hic*-king at them… it's… a special skill… you know?"

"You a chef? I can-hic*-cook better than you. You know what? To prove-hic*-you I am the better cook, come on, let's get to the kitchen right now, and I bet you my Father's sword that I can cook better than you!"

"No need. I know I'm going to win."

"What, too scared? What a scaredy-cat." a drunk Yulia taunted like a child. She even stuck her tongue out to get the point across.

"Huhhhhhhhhhh? Who's scared?" a drunk Isaac took the bait.

"Then bet on it!"

"OKAY! BET! If I win, I get-hic!*- Knight's -hic*- I mean Wing's sword, and if you win-hic*- my life is yours. How about that?"

"BET!" Yulia shouted.

"BET!" Isaac followed.

"I'm going to make you cry, little girl."

"Who are you calling, little? I'm older than you!"

That night was filled with shouting and laughter from two friends.

It was a wild night that was supposed to be spent talking peacefully with each turned into a cooking competition.

That night, half of the Town of Lord Manor burnt down.
