They had spent a lot of time looking for Kirk's parents and had still found nothing to show for all their work . The Protector didn't know exactly what had happened to Kirk's parents. Whether they were still alive or not. Or if they had somehow been able to leave the town during the confusion a d panic yesterday. But thinking of this, Lucius had a good reason to doubt his own suspicion since there was no way th witherfields would leave their Only son to suffer behind in a deadly place like Mid-Mount while they themselves were safe and sound in sore secured place. Unless of course they had already given up hope of their son being alive and had therefore utilized that loss and pain as their motivating factor to escape this place.
