"You're late, Captain!. What took you so long?!" One of the high ranking military officials who happened to be an admiral asked in a low icy tone that caused the captain to shudder a little. 

The men Inside the room were all very well above him not just in military rank, but in social and economic status as well. A single word from these men was all it'll take to strip him off his hard earned title. Following which the captain immediately dismissed any thoughts he had concocted about acting stubborn Infront of the colonel who had called for him. Doing something like that will be akin to digging his own grave, buying his own casket and also hiring a procession to finalize his funeral rites.
