Kapitel 18: Chapter 18: Caught in the Spider's Web

As the bids increase, so does the excitement. By Pandemonium, I myself am intrigued. I stand still while only shifting my eyes to see who calls out a price. The auctioneer opens with '1 zoloto.'

"5 zoloto!" a male voice calls.

"10!" a young woman cries out.

Upon each bid, the auctioneer works as a ringleader engaging the audience. As he hits the cymbal, the clamor rises.

"30!" The first Sumerki offers a new price.

"35!" A new bobber stakes their mark.

"50!" The young woman continues to compete with the others.

There's a pause as the bidders contemplate their pockets. The auctioneer relays the current bid. He holds out the drumstick while readying his hand to close the bid. Before he can strike a note, a familiar face comes into view.

"75 zoloto!" a mature Sumerki woman announces.
