Kapitel 26: Chapter 26: Seeing Is Believing

Maverick’s office door slams shut just before I can get to it.

I jiggle the doorknob, thankful it’s not locked, and push the door open.

It’s dark in the office, but I can see clearly. Maverick is leaning over his desk, breathing heavily.

He is a wolf on the verge of a total shift: angry and fierce.

It may not have been the best idea to chase after the one thing that wants to rip me apart.

“Maverick…I didn’t mean…I’m sorry.”

I take a cautious step closer to him, and his head whips to look over his shoulder. His eyes are glowing in the dark.

I swallow.

“Please…”

He blinks, putting his head in his hands. The tension in the room shifts with each passing second as he tries to calm down.

“I never want to see that again,” Maverick grumbles out.

“I know. It was an accident. It won’t happen, ever again.”

My heart is beating a mile a minute. Something I said must have set him off because he’s growling low in his chest.

If I wasn’t so terrified, it might turn me on.
