Sammy slowly disentangled herself from Cain, careful not to wake him, and rolled to her back. She already missed his warmth, but her arm was going numb. Staring at the ceiling wasn't helping this strange sensation in her chest, but the shadow play from the sun through the leaves was pretty.

She'd spent the better part of the night replaying his idea for their date. He knew she liked pancakes and handmade jewelry. In fact, everything in his plan revolved around her. Paintings and window shopping and even Thai food. She didn't know what to make of it. Or him. From the starting gate, they'd had an unequivocal dislike for one another. Maybe dislike was too strong a word. Either way, they didn't see eye-to-eye on much. But ever since Elise had forced them together, things had changed.
