Kapitel 8: You look good together

"You did what?" Maria's voice echoed around the four corners of the kitchen in their new home.

Scratching my nape, I did my best to avoid her gaze. It's a good thing that they're finally back after their honeymoon so I have someone to listen to my stupid life choices. Someone who will scold me and told me what to and not do.

"I did not mean to do it," I replied.

Maria turned around to face the stove, flipping over the sirloin on the pan before adding small cubes of water to it. I already asked why they don't want to hire a cook and I don't know if I should find her answer adorable or cringing.

She wanted to make her husband's meals.

"Have you talked with him after that incident?" Maria shifted back on facing me, hands grasping her apron and wiping them clean.

I simply shook my head as a response. It made hers nod knowingly as she watched me reach out for the grapes displayed on the island counter. Blowing thin air on it before putting it inside my mouth, looking at her as I chew the fruit.

"Lincoln's doing worse than that," she claimed and went back on cooking. "I'm glad that your morality was still intact," she added then finally placed the cooked meat on a rectangular plate. Placed a lid on it and left it alone to rest.

"That jerk," I scoffed before frankly pulling the tray of grapes and began munching on them.

Maria chuckled at my words. In the corner of my eyes, I saw her walk over to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of soda. Quietly and with politeness, I waited for the soda to be served.

"Have you taken to him after that date?"

I shifted my head towards Maria's direction before nodding my head twice. "I did," continuously shoving pieces of grapes inside my mouth as I spoke, "but only to be told that he's out of town with Samantha," I added.

Maria only stifled a laugh, handing me a can of soda. She then went back to cooking and before we knew it somebody was ringing the doorbell of the house. One of the maids made her way to the door and pull it open for whoever was waiting outside, which I'm pretty sure is Maria's husband.

I sat on the chair comfortably while waiting for the man to arrive. I cam faintly hear him talking in the hallway and he was not alone. He must've brought a guest with him. When the footsteps got louder, I looked over my shoulder to check who was he with and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"Tiffany?" Damian softly called my name.

Yes, it's freaking Damian. He was wearing a navy blue suit and his hair was pulled back, leaving his forehead exposed for everyone to see the full features of his face.

"Uh-oh," Maria mouthed out loud enough only for me to hear.

Yet again I scoffed. Maria's husband points at the chair next to me using his hands and Damian sat on it in the next second. Now, it seems like we're on a couple of dates.

"You didn't call for days," Damian muttered as I reached out for the plateful of cream pasta. Immediately, I took a glance at his face before placing a small amount of pasta on my plate.

"I got busy," I replied.

Damian hissed and I'm quite sure he doesn't want to believe my excuse. Well, I'm indeed busy aside from the fact that I want to distance myself from him for a while until everything cools down between the two of us. Just like before.

"You're not good at lying," he responded then carefully get the plate from me and serve himself.

His words got me rolling my eyes as I start to roll the pasta around my fork. I start to eat like a lady of grace and elegance, making sure that my lipstick won't get smudged with the utensils and food.

"You look good together," Maria blurted out of nowhere.

Instantly, my gaze landed on her, and oh boy, the urge of snacking her head to get rid of that smug expression was strong. The woman even have the guts to wriggle her eyebrows playfully as our eyes met.

"Sadly, Tiffany is to marry a man she doesn't have anything to do with," her husband piped out which I replied with another scoff for this night.

Our conversation about marriage went on until it reached the topic of Damian taking over his family's company. I was busily arguing why Damian should agree to inherit their businesses when my cellphone rang. Almost jumped out of my seat when I took a peek at who was calling me at this hour. It was Lincoln's mother.

"What is it this time?" I mumbled out with a groan at the end of my sentence.

I waved my hand a bit in the air to get everyone's attention and properly excuse myself from the dining to answer the call. My heels clanked on the tiled floor as I put on a stoic face, heading over to the veranda and pushing the answer button when I finally reached my destination.

"Yes, Mrs. Sandoval?" I asked in the nicest way possible.

Seconds passed and the other line remained silent. It made my forehead crease in confusion. Usually, Lincoln's mother would be all talkative when engaging in a conversation with me but now was different. It was complete silence. I even put the call on speakers to make sure that I'm not imagining things.

"Hello?" I repeat and finally, a rustling could be faintly heard in the background.

"Honey, I was thinking if you could accompany Lincoln on his trip to Dubai next week?"

My jaw almost dropped at the request. Lightly gnawing on my lower lip, I debated whether I should say yes or decline.

In agony, I turned around and a pair of blue eyes meets my amber ones.
