A murmur rippled down the adepts' side of the table as Kit, Willow, and Nicasi voiced their shock at the same time. Alaric's frown deepened, and even Lysander showed his surprise with a slight widening of his eyes.

Rowan resisted the urge to sigh. Of course the first time he was invited to sit at the table with the adepts and acolytes as an equal would result in half of them resigning.

Oh well. He really wasn't sure what they did all day, anyway.

He stole a glance at Wren, who merely observed everything as if he couldn't care less what the acolytes did or did not do.

The only one besides Wren who didn't seem surprised at all was Loma. Her gaze grew distant for a moment, then she nodded as if Cato's announcement was merely a confirmation.
