Rowan waited for his Master to react to the threat he'd just described.

Ciprian removed a fresh robe from his closet and put it on, acting less concerned than if Rowan had reported a sudden rain shower. "If this happens again, I want you to report to Alaric or myself immediately. Before you absorb the energy. Is that understood?"

Rowan shook his head. "But there's no telling what would happen if a corpse like that was left too long out in the open. You didn't see it."

"That's the point, Rowan. No one saw it." An edge crept into Ciprian's voice. "You are growing too fond of taking matters into your own hands. I heard about what you did for that talentless novice."

Rowan's hackles raised at the dismissive way Ciprian called Mara talentless. The tone was much too familiar. "All I did was provide a small comfort to ease the fear of death."
