Chapter 1:

Weird things I do that nobody else does:

- Take a shot of the salt shaker like it's a shot of Vodka

- Put salt instead of sugar on my food

- Talk to horses

- Talk to fish

- Understand and hold a conversation with horses and fish

- Drink so much water (Apparently refilling my drink bottle 10 times a day is 'concerning')

- Be called 'Lord' and 'Prince' by sea creatures

- Never have to use an umbrella, no matter how strong it rains

- Be able to stay underwater for seven minutes

- Have minor earthquakes (mostly not noticeable but the news reports on it) whenever I'm angry

- See monsters and other weird creatures

- Fingers don't do the whole 'prune' thing when I stay in the water for too long

- My eyes change color to match the nearest body of water (Gave my classmates a heart attack when we visited volcanic pools)

- My teeth get sorta sharper when I'm eating fish??? Like a vampire or a shark???

- My singing can make people fall into a trance like I'm some sort of siren

I groan and let my head fall onto my desk. What in the world is going on with me?

Two days ago, my school went on a field trip to Marine World. We got a behind-the-scenes tour of the shark tank and I accidentally pulled the lever that dropped us all into the tank- I got expelled, of course, but that's not the weird part.

The weird part is that I got told to pull the lever by the sharks. Throughout the entire field trip, I could understand the fish. They called me 'Lord' and 'Sea prince,' told me all the aquarium gossip, and kept asking to be freed.

Now, I'm aware that I'm quite oblivious at times; but this is too much. So I wrote a list of every single strange thing about me and now I'm even more confused than I was before.

The obvious answer to my strange abilities is that I'm Aqua-Man, but I'm nine, I'm fully aware that superheroes aren't real.

My next possible answer? Well, I went searching in the school library and all that came up that was vaguely close was a fiction book about a bunch of teenagers who find out they're the children of gods and five different textbooks on mythology. This might not be much, but then I realised; Mom had an awful lot of books on Greek Mythology.

Mom always had a whole shelf of books on Ancient Greece and it's Mythology, when I was younger I used to get told some of them as a bedtime story. Mom also doesn't talk about my dad and insists that he's 'lost at sea.'

I eye up the bookshelf. Mom is at work right now and Gabe is supposed to be looking after me, but he disappeared to go play poker somewhere with the only instructions of: "Don't touch my stuff and don't play with the stove," - fair enough, and he never told me to not touch Mom's books.

Hesitantly, I grab the nearest book. It was labelled 'The Iliad' and when I opened it… It was in Greek? Huh? Mom doesn't speak Greek, why does she have this? I stared at the pages that contained the foreign words, "Sing, O Goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaens."

… Wait a second.

That was in Greek! I just read Greek! I don't know Greek, how did I just read that? Was it magic?

I silently freaked out as I stared at the page which was clumsily being translated by my brain. This is insane! I just did that.

Huh. I guess my insane theory is correct. I'm just like the kids in that bad fiction story; I'm the son of a god. Not just any god, I'm the son of Poseidon.

I glanced down at the book in my hands. Great, I think this means research. I sigh as I tally up the books on the shelf that I'm going to have to read. This is going to take weeks!

Well, I guess I better get started.
