Henry Russell came out of his study and hurried down the stairs. Arriving downstairs, he saw Charlotte Cooper squatting at one side of the kitchen.
He rushed in and asked anxiously, "What happened? Charlotte?" His voice made her look up at him.
To Charlotte, she thought she looked pitiful, but in Henry's eyes, she was alluring. Charlotte's eyes were glistening with unshed tears, and her whole body exuded an aura that made people want to cherish her.
Henry sighed, admitting to himself that he had truly fallen for this woman. The cup on the floor was something he made with Charlotte during a trip abroad together. Seeing it, he understood why she had been crying. A moment later, he noticed a shard of the cup had cut her finger.
Henry's expression darkened, worried he might have startled her. Trying to sound gentle, he asked, "How did it happen? How could you be so careless?"
