In her heart, she was praying for them to not know the meaning behind this word.

She was praying to hear Alendro say that illegitimate means bad or something like this.

She was praying for that little child to get away from the harshness of the world.

She knew that it wasn't long before everyone starts saying the things they say behind his back in his face.

She knew that as he was growing, the chances of him getting hurt were raising as well but some prayers are always unanswered.

Maybe they are answered when God thinks that it's the correct time or when he thoughts that getting hurt will only do that person well.
