Mukai Jumped back, and Shisui was on his knees, catching his breath.
'That was too close.
It's time to finish this.' Shisui glared at Mukai as he muttered,
"Mangekyou Sharingan."
Shisui's Sharingan formed a four-pointed pinwheel.
The gazes of Shisui and Mukai had lasted less than a thousandth of a second.
For a normal Sharingan, the user couldn't be certain of capturing his opponent in a moment that short.
Shisui had not missed that fleeting instant. He had ensnared Mukai in the genjutsu.
"Mukai!" Shisui shouted, dumbfounded, Mukai unbleached his fist, and appeared to be calming down.
Before his eyes, Mukai fell, a spray of blood shooting from his stomach.
Itachi stared, rooted to the spot.
Mukai had cut his own stomach.
The instant Shisui's Sharingan had been activated, Mukai had stiffened slightly, and pulled a kunai from his pocket to slash a cross into his own stomach.
'So this is the incredible power of the Kotoamatsukami…' Itachi noted as he watched in awe.
"Hold on, Mukai!" Shisui shouted, crouching down to cradle the ninja's head.
"I'm a spy for another village.
Any interference with my brain, and a jutsu that makes me end my own life, is executed.
You can't save me." Mukai coughed, and blood spilled out of his mouth.
"Now can we go?" Ryuu asked.
"Fine," Kakashi said.
Ryuu connected his mind to Shisui's.
"Shisui, keep Mukai still, make sure he doesn't harm himself further."
"Yes sensei."
Mukai saw it fit to know what kind of jutsu defeated him so easily.
So he asked,
"I-I've never seen anyone caught in a genjutsu in that short a time before…
What the hell was that?"
Shisui didn't answer.
"Uchiha secret jutsu, huh?"
Shisui faltered, and Itachi glanced at him before addressing Mukai.
"Do you have anything you want to say?"
Ryuu appeared in front of Mukai and Shisui.
"You guys did well, I didn't doubt you at all." Ryuu healed Mukai's wounds.
"Captain…" Mukai grit his teeth seeing Ryuu.
"How didn't I see you? I had my Byakugan on."
"Hmph…" Ryuu glanced at him, and said,
"Uchiha secret jutsu."
"S-so, this is where we're at… I did what I did on my own. My wife and kid had nothing to do with it…"
"So, you're saying the crime of treason was yours alone?" Itachi asked.
"Selfish, but, well…"
With a trembling hand, Mukai groped for something in his pocket.
Itachi pushed aside Mukai's fingers and pulled out the object he was fumbling for. He grabbed a cigarette from the package and put it between Mukai's lips.
"L-light…" This time, Shisui pulled the lighter from Mukai's pocket and held the flame to the end of the cigarette.
Mukai took a long drag, letting the smoke flow down to the bottom of his lungs, before exhaling the smoke as though relishing the taste.
"This is how a ninja dies, you know? I'll be waiting for you over there.
You too Captain."
"You'll be waiting for a long time."
"Everyone has to die at some point."
"Yeah, well, I'll beat the odds." Mukai smiled.
"You're the only person I'd believe to beat those odds." Mukai started looking around like he was looking for something.
"Is Captain Kakashi also here?"
"Yes, yes, he is." Ryuu finished healing him.
"You know how this goes Mukai, either stop moving or I'll put you in a genjutsu and still search your memories."
Mukai nodded.
Ryuu formed a hand sign and searched Mukai's mind, hoping to see if there was any useful information.
'Itachi and Shisui killed all the ones he was allied with.
Impressive.'
Once he was done searching his memory, Ryuu left his consciousness.
"Well, Mukai? Being part of my team, even if you betrayed it, I'll give you a chance to pick how you want to go."
"You know me, I'm simple, just make it quick." Ryuu nodded.
Ryuu activated his Sharingan and put him in a strong genjutsu.
Mukai smiled before he stopped breathing at will.
"What did you do to him?" Itachi asked.
"I developed this genjutsu as a kid.
Then later I upgraded it after learning from the Kurama clan.
To him, he lived a happy life with his family, all he had to do to make it eternal was stop his breathing.
Naturally, even though he betrayed his village, he loved his family very much."
"I…
See…"
"It's over," Shisui said, his voice shaking with exhaustion.
Itachi nodded.
"Let's head back into the village, they informed us about some kind of terrorist group, but when we came back, we found you already took care of it.
Mukai Kohinata was in contact with that group, and they were the ones in cahoots with him."
"Before we go, let's just make sure he's dead," Kakashi suggested.
"You're right." Ryuu took Mukai's lighter and burned his body.
"Let's head back now," Kakashi said.
Ryuu nodded.
Ryuu teleported them back to the village and inside the Hokage's office.
"We're back."
Ryuu gave Sakumo a debrief of the mission and so did Itachi.
After that, Itachi, Shisui, and Kakashi were dismissed.
"See you later, I'll come train with you guys after this."
"Alright." They replied before closing the door.
Ryuu stayed inside, he kneeled and listened to Sakumo.
"Starting tomorrow, team RO will have a new member.
This is a good thing, the Uchiha clan will now have three members of their clan, hopefully, this will show them they're trusted by the village.
Right now, the only two things keeping the Uchiha clan from either leaving or starting a coup are my relationship with Fugaku and Hanzo, and your status in both the clan and the village."
"Danzo's orders made the Uchiha targets in Konoha, we have done nothing to harm the villagers…
Well, not directly.
As it stands, bringing my clan back to the village will create too much unrest.
Villagers will make scenes, and Uchiha will respond.
In two years, I'll make everything better for the village and the clan.
Things are already going according to plan, you know?"
Sakumo nodded.
"I'll give you the freedom to choose whether to report back to me.
But I expect an update on the situation."
"I understand."
"You're dismissed for now." Ryuu nodded.
"See you tomorrow, dad."
"Goodbye, Ryuu."
Ryuu left and went to pick up Naruto.
"Hey, Naruto, we're leaving."
"Oh, come on! Give me five more minutes!"
"Idiot, you said that ten minutes ago!"
"That's so unfair, big bro!"
Naruto pouted.
"See you later, guys!"
Naruto waved his friends off, he already told everyone Ryuu Uchiha is his brother, he did this to impress them and make friends so now people followed him around.
As they were walking, Ryuu said,
"You know, you should be more like Sasuke."
"What?!"
"I mean, most of his time he's with you or training with Itachi.
It's the reason he's top of the class and you're second. Even if you're matching in points, I think you could do better."
"Big brother that's uncalled for, I work hard too, believe it!"
"I certainly believe it, but I'm just saying you could do a lot more."
Naruto pouted and folded his arms.
Sigh.
Ryuu took Naruto's hand.
"Huh? Quit it, big bro! I just started making friends, you know!"
"What? you should be proud I'm holding your hand.
Many people would die for this opportunity, and aren't you the one boasting about how your big brother could take on a village by himself?"
Ryuu playfully said with a smile to cheer Naruto up.
"Yeah, well, I'm not one of those people who'd die to meet you."
"Hahaha!" Ryuu laughed at Naruto.
"Ouch, you hurt my feelings.
I could use some Ichiraku Ramen to feel better."
"Yeah let's go!"
"I said I could use some, you'll be paying for both if you want to come."
Ryuu said with a smirk.
"That's cold, big bro."
----------------------------------------
The next day, Itachi was starting his career as an Anbu…
Team Ro was changing, and then they heard the door opening.
Itachi walked in with his clothes and gear in a box as his Katana and mask balanced on the box.
"I'm starting my new Anbu assignment today, my name is Itachi Uchiha.
I'm glad to be here."
Tenzo walked to him and said,
"So, you're the one they're talking about? You can take the locker room that's in the back."
"Yes sir," Itachi responded.
As Itachi was unpacking, people were talking behind his back.
"They say he's only 11."
"That makes him the youngest Anbu ever.
Even younger than our captains."
Another one added.
"You're on team RO, meet at the third training ground in five minutes."
Tenzo said.
"Right."
Itachi finished putting on his uniform and left for the training grounds.
Whoosh… Whoosh… Shurikens flew past Itachi's head and body as he walked to the training grounds, unfazed by the shurikens.
"What are you doing? Explain yourselves." Kakashi appeared behind Itachi, Ryuu was beside him and so was Tenzo.
"We wanted to make sure he had the skills to be one of us."
"Since he's so young." Another one added.
"Do you have a problem with your superior's decision?" Kakashi asked.
"No sir, it's not like that." He answered with his head down.
"Haven't you already figured out that he's no ordinary shinobi?"
"We've met before, but allow me to reintroduce myself.
I'm Kakashi, Co-captain of team RO.
I'm sure Ryuu has already taught you some rules and formations, but we'll go through them again so you can adjust more quickly."
"Yes, sir."
With that, Itachi's career as an Anbu began.
