(Brian's P.O.V)
I pushed my head phones up and ignored the rest of the class. We were all inside the bus that was taking us to Oscorp. Peter was chatting excitedly with Harry and occasionally taking pictures. They were seated at the seat Infront of me. Next to me was MJ who had uncharacteristically chosen not to sit next to her boyfriend, Flash. The guy in question was staring daggers my way. Unfortunately for him that was all he could do as I was one of the few people he didn't try to mess with.
I taught him a lesson once and let's just say when you get the shit kicked out of you like child's play, a little fear remains. Ever since I'd roughed him and his friends up, he'd steered clear. He still tried to bully Peter but before I could beat some more sense into him, Peter told me not to. The little guy wanted to handle it by himself. A little warning to Flash ensured that he never went overboard though. I know what you're thinking, 'why let Pete suffer when you could have helped him?' The answer to that would be…character development.
One of the reasons Peter had taken up the mantle for Spiderman was because he wanted to help the little guy. That's why, Spiderman was such an inspiration. Call on the avengers during world ending events but when you're getting mugged in an alley the one who would come to your rescue was none other than the web-slinger. Part of that was because he knew how it felt to be weak. I couldn't take that away from him.
"Trouble in paradise?"
I asked MJ. She had a scowl on her face that did little to hide just how gorgeous she was. Seriously. Full succulent lips, Beautiful green eyes and my personal favorite, Red hair. She was like a mini Natasha minus the ferocious nature my sexy Russian spy possessed.
"All guys are dumb."
She sulked.
"Hey! I take offense to that."
She rolled her eyes at my response.
"You know what I mean."
I nodded.
"Personally, I think you deserve better. Scratch that, I know you deserve better. Flash is a bully and it doesn't look like he's gonna change any time soon."
I spoke my thoughts. They'd only started dating a month ago. Guess I was wrong about MJ having a secret crush.
She looked at me with an expression I couldn't quite understand before looking away.
"Yeah."
There was a brief silence between us and I closed my eyes while listening to music. MJ nudged me.
"Hey, Brian. Can I ask you something?"
I sighed and nodded.
MJ clicked her tongue at my attitude.
"God, you're anti-social."
I smirked.
"Just the way I like it. My social meter bar gets filled up too quickly. I don't like people."
"Oh trust me. I know. Anyway…"
I rose an eyebrow when she started acting shy.
"Yes?"
I snagged a piece of paper before it could hit Peter on the back of his head and looked back. Flash and his gang were laughing. I didn't say anything but a slow smile that promised pain worked it's way onto my face. Flash gulped and held up his hands. I turned my attention back to the red-head.
"I was wondering… you're really good at biology and I need some tutoring, could you help me out?"
She asked shyly while twirling a piece of hair. Oh, Oh? Oooh! Shit, don't tell me… the one thing I was trying to ignore and here it is - happening.
I wasn't a dumb shonen protagonist. I knew there was a probability that MJ liked me. I've actually had a lot of girls crushing on me but the problem was that I'd been a 34 hear old male in my past life and although puberty had it me again, I still preferred…mature women to the girls in high school. I looked at her face but couldn't bring myself to let her down. MJ was our next door neighbor, things could get awkward if I messed this up.
"Um sure."
I shrugged.
"Really? That's great. I mean…thanks."
She said excitedly. Cute.
"Don't get too excited though. I don't know how much I can help. Peter's the resident genius in the Parker household."
"So humble. You're a straight A student yourself plus Pete's a nice guy but he seems like someone's who's gonna go off topic and try to teach me, quantum theory and mechanics."
I couldn't help it, I laughed. She didn't know just how apt that description was.
Peter was a genius. I don't know how much I can stress that fact. Peter. Is. A. Genius. He had his own personal lab in the basement of our house and the kind of projects he was working on were crazy.
For instance, he already had a working theory on how to construct unstable molecular fabrics. Fabrics made from a configuration of unknown atomic nuclei and electrons synthesized by Reed Richards in the Fantastic four storyline. It was one of the working ideas I'd given him. That along with building an arc reactor and lastly a dimensional portal gun.
I didn't know the exact science behind dimensional travel but I gave him the idea of different Earth's vibrating at their own vibration frequency from the DC universe. The thought that the Transformer's universe could exist out there in the multiverse was enough for Peter to Jump into that as well. Having the family in a stable economic situation helped Peter to have a safe environment to go full-on nerd without worrying about money or stuff like that.
My adoptive parents and I made sure to encourage him so long as he didn't create a killer robot in our basement that would try to end all humanity.
I helped him out occasionally but it was clear to anyone that Peter had already surpassed me in the intelligence sector. That didn't mean I slacked off during the year however. Today was the day. The day he was going to turn into Spiderman and all my preparations were complete.
Before arriving I brought up The Interface to review my progress.
[Name: Brian Parker]
Cultivation level: N/A (99% to ???)
Body strength: Enhanced human.
Soul strength: N/A
Mental strength: Mid Psion
Special skills: Echo
The progress towards my cultivation had firmly stopped at 99% and it didn't budge. That said my body strength had levelled up from peak human to Enhanced human. At peak human, I had been capable of lifting many times my weight with the upper limit of 500 kg roughly 1100 lbs. After achieving enhanced human my strength was now at 800 kg or 1700 lbs.
Keep in mind that was only in the strength section. My flexibility was off the charts. I had made sure to have an agile body and my max speed as of now was 40 mph (64 kph)
I hadn't seen any other progress from my other parameters which made me slightly frustrated. My control over the immediate energy around me had gotten pretty good which was enough to offset the lack of progress in creating other Psionic abilities.
I had a feeling I would only be capable of that once I actually started cultivating. My intuition led me to believe having a huge disparity between my cultivation and body strength couldn't be a good thing. I had a plan for that.
Tobey Maguire's Spiderman didn't exhibit any emitter powers apart from the webs he created from his wrist. And I didn't want to be a copycat of Spiderman, that was where the functions I had added to The Interface came in. I was going to edit the powers gained from spider man to better suit me as a cultivator.
The path I had chosen to tread was one that heavily relied on the concept of unlimited growth. That meant I couldn't be satisfied by momentary gains.
The bus stopped at the parking lot of the multi-billion dollar company. Without the existence of companies like Stark, Hammer and other marvel giants, Oscorp was well in the lead when it came to latest technologies or military contracts.
Peter whistled beside me and snapped a picture of the huge skyscraper. Harry groaned from Peter's Left.
"Why does the school have to organize a tour in the last place I'd want to be at?"
'He's doesn't see eye to eye with his dad even in this universe.' I mused.
"Ok. Gather around everyone. Stop messing around Flash. Ok, Class, we've arrived. I expect you all to behave. That goes double for you Flash. Don't leave the group and pay attention to what the guide says."
The teacher told us and the tour officially begun.
I gotta say, Oscorp was really impressive. The entrance was huge with a lot of people going in and out.
The tour started from the first floor and we went through most of the scientific labs. There were a lot of scientists working on incredible stuff. I could feel Peter's excitement getting higher and higher.
And then we finally arrived at the cross species genetics department. There were spiders in the casings on the walls and I was tongue-tied at it all. Peter was busy taking pictures of other kids so I started paying close attention to him.
I spread out my awareness and there! Hanging from a web on the roof, a multicolored spider was slowly falling towards Peter. I went forwards and stood behind my brother.
The spider settled on his neck and bit him.
Peter cried out and in reflex sent his palm to squash the spider but I quickly intervened by slapping his neck lightly.
"God Peter, that was one big ass mosquito. You alright?"
I asked him while he winced and rubbed where the spider had but him.
"Ouch…I think so. Did you kill it?"
I nodded while concealing the unharmed spider into a small plastic cup. I pocketed the cup which had small holes on it and fought to keep the smile off my face.
Mission accomplished. Now it's time for power.
