Kapitel 13: The Mermaid Miracle (2)

Entering the house of Max was a new experience for me. It was my first time in a human house. Unlike the sea cave, Max's house was small, enough for three people. The house had a low ceiling, old brick wall, and fading paint on the furniture, thanks to its age. Though the house appeared to be antique, it was remarkably clean, with no visible dust, and gave off a refreshing scent. We sat down on the chair, and the heavy silence filled the room. In the midst of stillness, Max started the conversation.

"Brielle, are you serious that you can heal my mother? But, how? Even the temple can't do anything," Max asked successively.

"My power is different. Papa said it is more effective than the others," I confessed.

"If that is so, it's a relief," he said, giving a hopeful face. "However, does your father know you are here?"

I shake my head as the answer to his question.

"For sure Mister is worried about you right now. Maybe, hmm… you should go. But my mother..."

"Don't worry, Max. Papa is intelligent. He knows what I'm thinking, so I guess he was on the way here. Healing your mother is the most important thing right now."

Max burst into tears after hearing the words that came out of my mouth. "If that is the case, Brielle, plea-please heal m-my mother."

I patted Max's head and watched him until he calmed down. Given how much he cried, he surely endured it for days. Without a doubt, he loves his mother dearly.

"Sorry, Brielle, I cried so hard," Max said, rubbing his puffy eyes. "Then, can we go to my mother? She is in the room right now."

"Let's go," I said, getting off the chair.

Max directed me to a room where his mother was resting. He opened the wooden door and called his mother, "Mother...Mother, wake up. I brought someone who can treat you."

Upon entering, I saw a sick lady lying in the white small bed. She had fair skin which appeared to be not touched by the sunlight, brown hair identical to Max, and thin arms that seemed to be broken even with the lightest touch. This lady, in front of me, was Max's mother.

Max's mother slowly opened her deep brown eyes, and said weakly, "Am I in the afterlife? Did I die?... Cough...It's not bad to see a pretty angel...Cough... standing in front of me."

"Mother, don't joke around like that...Sniff...It's not an angel, it's my friend, Brielle," Max said, holding back his tears.

"So, this is her, no wonder Max keeps talking about you." She smiled and stared at me with her kind eyes.

"Brielle will heal you, Mother. Don't worry you will be alright soon," he added. I walked towards her mother, then held her hand. Her hand was as light as a feather, even I could lift it. How long did she endure it to the point that her body deteriorated? This is frustrating. I must heal her.

Closing my eyes, the darkness filled my sight. The heavy breathing of the two people resonated in my ears. By the hands that connect me to Max's mother, I let my energy flow. In every vein, I can sense my energy being carried gently as if it were a river. Almost there. Just one more.

Clack!

It was done.

I opened my eyes, and tenderly let go of her hand. Straightaway, I looked at Max's mother. Her body, which had previously resembled a withering flower, now transformed into a blooming brown rose. She became even more beautiful.

"Mo-Mother...Mo-mother...Mother!" sobbed Max, hugging his mother. They were both crying, but not because they were sad, rather they were happy. Tears traveled down their cheeks- washing away the sorrows deep inside of them. It was refreshingly sweet. It was like a smiling sky wrapped in rain. You've felt the warmth and light of the sun while having a rain shower. Yet, as we all know, at the end of the day, the sun will remain.
