Kapitel 10: Chapter 10 - Rewards and admiration

Back to the mission assignment desk, Tetsuya was a bit saddened over the issues of lack of money, although his contribution couldn't be denied, most of the actual fight was done by Kakashi alone.

Money was something nobody could lack if they wanted to grow stronger. Sure, you could rely only on your Chakra if you wished to, but who the hell has enough Chakra to use it without a care in the world?

Tools were a great way of reducing your burdens in battle, why use fire release if you can glue a piece of paper to the surface of your Kunai and simply blow up whoever it hits? The power wouldn't be as great and it also wouldn't be as versatile, but in compensation, you didn't have to make seals and just need a bit of accuracy to hit your target.

Now, the thing that annoys him the most is the possibility of not being able to touch his enemies, he never considered this situation in a battle in this world, but if a beast could have that power, why can't a Shinobi also have it?

This taught him that he was being quite careless, his enemies might not have arcane energy, but that doesn't mean their means aren't just as versatile.

In order to prepare himself against the unknown, it would be in his best interest to acquire a powerful weapon to increase the range of his attacks as well as prevent physical contact.

Standing next to the door with his hands crossed, Tetsuya watched as the team leader, Ikkaku went to the desk to retrieve the reward and deliver the collected items. Kakashi was at his side waiting as well.

"Ikkaku, thanks for your team's hard work, we have registered your mission as a success, leave the scroll with the herbs and the body here, and also, here's your reward." The Kunoichi responsible for registering the completion of missions spoke as she collected the sealing scrolls and gave them another scroll.

Sealing scrolls are one of the most useful widespread tools in the Ninja world, they were used to store everything from money to whatever you can think of, even living people can be put inside scrolls under the right circumstances, such as after them being sealed inside an object that works as its host.

That of course, would be complex and difficult but shows that it can be done.

"Thank you."

Taking the rest of the team with him, they gathered on the rooftop of the Academy.

"This C-rank mission issued by Orochimaru-sama is amongst the most difficult possible for this rank, as such, the reward is pretty high." Taking out the scroll, he opened it on the ground and used the 'kai' seal, releasing what was inside.

Seeing a pile of money, with many coins and notes, both Kakashi and Tetsuya were astonished. Kakashi's father might be rich, but he never saw the money itself, so even for him, it was his first time seeing so much.

"The reward is 100.000 Ryo. This amount may look like a lot, but it's actually very little, as such, I won't bother taking my part, whenever we complete missions below B-rank, you guys can take all the money to yourself. However, this means that you two will be responsible for deciding the shares."

Understanding this, Tetsuya turned to look at Kakashi.

The two looked at each other and after a moment they decided.

"Equal share?"

"Equal share."

Nodding, the two took their parts and stored the money inside their pouches.

"Alright, first of all, I suggest you guys buy a money-specific storage scroll, their starting price is 5.000 Ryo but even those cheap ones can store up to five million, and there are some useful functions such as only storing a certain amount or only taking out a certain amount based on the command."

Kakashi and Tetsuya nodded at that, anyone could see just how much those things would have to be used from now on, without storage scrolls they would have a headache before, during, and after every mission.

Thinking of the Uzumaki who created those things, Tetsuya was honestly astonished. It's not like they didn't have space-time technology from the place he came from, but just a warp-drive bubble required a machine that was almost 15 meters tall just to warp a single-seat starfighter, not mentioning the size, just the complexity and costs of the machine are beyond anything in this world, and yet, all the Uzumaki needed was some ink, paper, and creativity...

With a sigh he couldn't help but think if the people of his world were stupid or just unlucky, why the hell was it so easy for the people of this world to develop this kind of thing?

Having taken his share, Kakashi and Tetsuya were about to leave, but Ikkaku asked Tetsuya to stay behind.

When Kakashi left, Ikkaku finally spoke about why he stopped him.

"Tetsuya, you must have figured out how high the difference between the people from great and noble clans are from the rest of us. From the lack of jutsus to tools, civilian ninja always start with a disadvantage."

Tetsuya nodded, things like the fire release or the shadow clone were beyond the scope of what he's capable of acquiring right now, and even if he wanted to have a sword right during his first mission he would have to rely on his parents' money in order to that.

The problem was that his family is very humble, they didn't lack a ceiling above their heads, good clothes, or food, but it was nowhere near enough to support the expenditure of a ninja.

Only families that had rich businesses would be able to better equip their descendants in case they took this path.

"There sure is a big distance between me and Kakashi, I'm not even fully aware of how to perform nature transformation yet, and even before graduating, he already had a fire release Ninjutsu as well as Shadow Clone Technique."

Tetsuya spoke with admiration, it wasn't like he was jealous or something similar, he knew that only having the resources wouldn't help. Take Obito as an example, like every other Uchiha, he too has access to the training manuals pertaining to Uchiha kenjutsu, taijutsu, and ninjutsu, all those things they receive free, and yet, Obito can't even begin to hope to compare with himself. In fact, when comparing Uchiha Obito to Uchiha Arata, the differences were so high, that they were like the difference between the breeze and a fart, there was simply no comparison...

Ikkaku nodded and continued to explain. "I know it looks difficult, but you have to understand that our village is not trying to suppress your growth. Talent, whether we like it or not, has a huge effect on the growth of any Shinobi.

"The village can't afford to support everyone, nor does it want to do that. Due to how difficult it is to cultivate a powerful ninja, the system is designed to reward those with talent the most.

"Take Kakashi as an example, he has close to no need for the mission rewards in terms of growth. With only his father's resources, he has all that he needs to grow comfortably all the way up to the Jonin level. The reason why someone like him needs to complete missions is for the experience they provide! Only by participating in increasingly difficult missions will he acquire the experience needed to grow stronger.

"We, on the other hand, who are of civilian background, have the most rewards from the missions. Because we are talented but lack in everything else, the pressure on us is much higher than that on any ninja of noble descent, therefore our growth is much higher and we benefit from two sides, the experience, and the money, in order words, is there mostly for us. It might not be enough at the moment but just think about it. Why is it that not-so-talented Shinobi always start doing D-rank missions that pay only between one to five thousand Ryo? I know you'll understand. As for the last thing, meet me at the training ground 22 tomorrow."

Before Tetsuya could answer, Ikkaku disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Standing alone on the rooftop, Tetsuya turned to look at the Kage monument, his eyes swept past the three heads stamped on the side of the mountain, and his gaze locked on that of Senju Tobirama.

He could somewhat understand the train of thought behind Ikkaku-sensei's words. He probably didn't want him to become dispirited due to the large initial difference. Although it surely didn't make him happy that the initial development is quite difficult for people like him, he knew that unlike his rivals in the seat of power whose progression could be defined by an arithmetic progression, his would be more like a geometric progression.

The reason behind this was, simply put, for the very difference in terms of challenges that have to be surpassed. Just like Ikkaku-sensei had said, while we from the civilian origin are more at risk due to our lack of power, we actually gain the most benefits from missions.

Like a game, due to Kakashi's initial stand and gear, the difficulty of the mission is lowered and so are his rewards, but for someone like Tetsuya, who has worse gears and worse abilities, the challenge is increased and so are the rewards. By overcoming the difficult path along the way, eventually, they shall both stand on the same patch of grass on top of a mountain, towering over others in a mostly unreachable level of power.

As for what he said at the end. He clearly understood. There was a difference between him and common graduates because Tetsuya's ability is already comparable to that of Kakashi, there's no meaning in wasting time with D-rank missions because they are literally foundational missions! Their only purpose is to better equip Genin so that they can start tackling the more difficult C-rank missions!

Although he wasn't able to tell this initially, after going to the mission assignment desk and getting some understanding from the mission system, the answer became clear. After all, the rewards of the D-rank missions were all between 1.000 to 5.000 Ryo. Assuming that the standard number of D-rank missions completed before an average Genin team starts doing C-rank missions is around twenty to thirty, that meant they would have done between 20.000 to 150.000 Ryo, if that wasn't enough to better equip a three-man team and give them the necessary experience to start the more difficult missions, then he didn't know what else was!

And then comes the question, why did they skip the foundational missions? The answer again is very simple.

Tetsuya turned around and smiled as he started jumping across the rooftops on his way to the armory shop. "Ikkaku-sensei, the reason you brought us directly to C-rank missions is actually to speed up my growth, isn't it? Hehe, one day I'll return this favor, no matter how small it is to you!"

On his way there, he couldn't help but think of Senju Tobirama again, the more time he spent on this world, the more astonished he was with that man's wisdom, from what he knew on the surface, almost everything about the Hidden Village system was idealized by him, and optimized with the help of members from more intellectual clans like the Nara.

Senju Tobirama was probably plagued with the issue of how to raise new talents for the village, and his approach to the matter was truly impeccable, less talented Shinobi can still use hard work to overcome their weakness, and the more talented, whether they are from noble clans or not, would get a tremendous boost of power with every completed mission!

You might be asking how? Well, it's very simple, really.

With the exception of the more exotic and powerful jutsus, the vast majority of them cost only the base price of the mission of the same rank, as missions were always available and the influx of money is constant, this means that on average, a ninja would be able to acquire a jutsu of the same level of the mission he completed with every two or even one missions completed!

So long as civilians put on some hard work, there truly was a very high possibility of catching up with the inheritance of their peers from noble clans! Not only that, but this also meant that almost anyone who managed to reach the Jonin level could start his own clan. It wouldn't be an easy task, but still not an impossible one, and even if you didn't start your own clan, it's almost a certainty that if your descendant also wished to become a Ninja, he too would taste from the fruits of your own hard work over the years, meaning that his advantage would be more or less at the same level of those of noble descent!

And that's only speaking of Genin... once you grow to the level of Chunin and above, you could start working alone and completing missions by yourself, that couple with the famous bingo book, meant that almost anyone had opportunities to grow indefinitely, the exception being those with inborn disabilities that can't make up for them with the use of special techniques.

"Senju Tobirama, your approach is not perfect, but very admirable nonetheless!" Tetsuya couldn't help but exclaim out loud. There were very few people he admired over the years, and Tobirama was one such person.
