Kapitel 22: Who?

Later that night after visiting the National Gallery and a dinner of fish and chips, I was sitting on my bed with my computer and books spread out before me. Assignments were waiting for me, but my mind was back home.

I picked up my phone for the twentieth time since I had gotten back in my room. Still no text from Mark. Another glance at my computer showed no emails either. I was starting to panic. Focusing on my schoolwork was nearly impossible.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I picked up the phone and clicked on Mark’s name. It rang twice before it was answered.

“Hello?” The voice was familiar and very feminine.

“Nan?” My heart stopped.

“Leigh? Mark can’t come to the phone right now. Can I have him call you back when he has time?”

When he has time? I almost hung up, but the conversation I had with the gentleman earlier came back to me. I thought I had no control here, but did I have more than I thought I actually had?

“Why are you answering his phone?”
