You said the guy screamed and screamed until you thought your ears would bleed." She lifted a shoulder. "That snowballed."

She chuckled. "Yeah. Like I said, explaining how I got here would be painful."
Was there another reason, though? He couldn't allow himself to fully trust Candi, even though he wanted to. She had her own agenda, and that was a fact he couldn't let himself forget.
