In an attempt to console her best friend, Pepper resorted to badmouthing her own twin—if that would make Amber feel any better.

The two of them weren't able to talk much since then because they prioritized leaving the border.

It was for the best because deep entanglement could mean trouble.

Pepper felt uneasy due to the fact that Salt never bothered apologizing. He was avoiding her intentionally, too. He knew she was going to chew him out for his inexcusable behavior, so he was distancing himself as a precaution.

Amber threw her a weird look. "I'm over it. Let him be."

She was smiling when she said that.

Her mellow gaze signified that she wasn't even the least bit concerned about how Salt acted poorly toward her.
