Kapitel 44: More Than You Can Chew

THIS VOTE WILL CHANGE HOW MANY CHAPTERS YOU GUYS GET PER DAY:

Before we get to our irregularly scheduled chapter, what do you guys think is better for a character in a fantasy world?

An Overseer?

A Wander?

Vote by liking my comment on either choice. This vote will last till Saturday at twelve O'clock, at which point a choice will be made. No this is not a new waifu vote… or maybe it is now that I think about it?

Who knows.

Now then let's get back on track

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

_______________

POV: Astaros

_______________

*BOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!*

A single step.

In a single step I destroyed the entire clearing.

The earth shattered and cracked, crags of dirt and stone, tearing up the trees and devastating the battlefield. A massive plume of dust and soil exploded up as the clearing sunk into a shallow sinkhole. Now this will be our battle field. Uneven crags, broken fields, lots of cover, unexpected depths and many places to hide.

I then concealed myself, delving into the shadows and ravines.

_____________

POV: Christine

_____________

"Wow… I really didn't expect that." {Christine}

In moments Astaros had reshaped the entire clearing into a sunken, maze of crags and ravine like paths.

Jutting masses of dirt now stuck up into the sky, knotted groups of roots now completely exposed from the grass and the surrounding trees.

"They're in for a horrid fight." {Dryis}

"Eh?" {Christine}

She sighed as curled up a little while we looked down from the sunken labyrinth he had created.

"When I was training with him he had just begun to learn to use earth element to shape the environment and trap his opponents. With his concealment abilities and explosive power he can execute ambushes easily and on top of that if he really wanted to flush everyone out he could flood the entire thing with fire. He has not only gotten momentum against them while they are disoriented he also holds a terrain advantage. On top of all of that he is just all around more powerful." {Dryis}

I nodded realizing the situation's new complexity.

"I see." {Christine}

He went and changed the entire situation to favor him.

"They've already lost." {Christine}

______________

POV: 3rd person

______________

Katia and Raven walked slowly through the zigzagging paths that ran through the devastated field, Katia leading her and pushing low hanging roots out of their way. They had been split up from Fillia and now were trying to regroup.

"Perhaps we should go up?" {Raven}

Her soft voice echoed in the surrounding crevices putting them both on edge.

"No. If we go up and out we'll likely get targeted by long range or high power magic. In here we will end up in a brawl. That will make it based on physical strength and combat prowess." {Katia}

Raven walked slowly behind her, sweat dripping down her face.

"Can you win in that kind of contest?" {Raven}

However Katia didn't respond.

_______________

POV: 3rd person

Fillia

_______________

Fillia was now darting through the middle of the disaster where the dust hadn't settled.

'This is crazy, wasn't this supposed to be a simple match!? He's going all out! That idiot!' {Fillia}

The dust floating in the air was dense and completely obscured her vision while also messing up her sense of smell.

*BLAM!!*

A massive fist collided with her as she drew her sword to block and a shield of foxfire whirled in front of her. The careening fist blasted through the shield and clanged against her sword, sending her flying before she regained her balance and jutted her legs into the ground, grinding to a halt.

The dust whirled and blew away revealing Astaros.

Silence permeated the area as they stared each other down.

Astaros then leaned forward a little before detonating the ground beneath him in a blast of air pressure leaving behind a cracked crater in his wake.

Fillia leaned back into a limbo, as his metallic foot swung over her face, the wind blasting her hair back as she then turned her torso horizontally as Astaros spun and planted his foot down into the ground, narrowly dodging a devastating blow. The moment his foot connected with solid ground he swung his fist again, catching the reorienting Fillia in the chest and launching her into a crag.

She slammed into it, the crag crumbling as she fell.

'One down.' {Astaros}

Suddenly Astaros was overshadowed as Katia came rocketing down, her hammer smashing into Astaros as he raised his forearm to block.

*BLLAAAAMMMMMM*

The walls of the sinkhole shuddered as the impact landed, the ground under Astaros shifting and crunching as it sank into it. Everything then floated for a moment as the delayed shockwave rolled across the battlefield and launched everything up.

Pushing her back with a swing of his arm, he pushed himself as the space where he once floated darkened and began vibrating.

'Raven.' {Astaros}

Landing, he looked around for the witch in the split second he was granted by his forceful defense.

A glint in his peripheral offered him a few vital seconds in which he stepped back and angled his vanguard, deflecting an otherwise dead-on thrust from Fillia.

'So she's up.' {Astaros}

She dropped down and came in low, aiming for a spot in between his chestplate and his core plating.

A wind element wall formed between the two and Fillia was slowed significantly going through it, allowing Astaros to side step the thrust.

Suddenly he was backlit by a ghostly pale violet light.

He then twisted to avoid a hammer swing from Katia and in the same movement he used his momentum to land a crushing blow to Katia's solar plexus.

Spittle came out of her mouth as she choked out a cough, before being sent flying by the blow.

Astaros then hopped from foot to foot, lightening his step with wind element before pushing off and sailing through the maze of crags and paths before gaining enough distance. Jutting his feet into the dirt he skidded to a stop, two long tracks from his impromptu brake in momentum being left behind in his wake.

He then lifted his left hand up, aiming it at the floor as he punched the ground, a barrier of light forming in front of him. The low hum of Ravens spell heralded it's arrival. Void bind. Ten ghostly purple chains ending in cylinders came flying towards him and crashed into the barrier, shattering and combusting on impact.

*THHOOOMM!!!*

Raw mana constructs created by grey mana or though pure raw mana can be destroyed by element imbued mana constructs. A fact Astaros had learned when practicing Crystallization. A simple yet devastating piece of information.

Astaros closed his eyes as the smoke and fire from the explosion curled around him while he stood in the fires of his success.

His mana sense spread out, feeling a fast approaching object in the black void of his mana vision.

He turned around within the obscuring smoke as it swirled around him.

An abrupt swing from Katia's frostbite cleaved the smokescreen in half as Astaros leaned back, the hammer barely scraping his helm as small sparks flew.

He raised his right arm and caught the swinging hammer in the crux of his arm, before thrusting his fist forward straight into the side of Katia's head.

*KRAKKOOOOMM!!!*

The sound reverberated through the sinkhole as the smoke was blown away.

He then grabbed her by the head with his left hand, lifting her off the ground and flinging her at a now exposed Fillia who tried to ambush him.

She went flipping through the air, crashing into Fillia before she could react.

*BLLLAAAAMMMM!!!*

Both were instantly done in by the throw and Katia crumpled over Fillia, smashing her into the ground before bouncing off and slamming into and through a crag before cratering a ways away.

"Now it's just…" {Astaros}

A low hum came from below him as the ground cracked and raised.

He bent his knees and jumped, destroying the ground below as launched himself heavenward, while a mass of chains burst from below to capture him. They spiraled up chasing him into the sky as hid in the glare of the sun.

A scarlet glint lit up the ether as Astaros spinning came back down into the writhing mass of ghostly chains.

The Shattered Star glowed red as he coated it in his foxfire and smashed through the first couple chains, shattering them.

He stuck out his foot catching it on one of the chains and pushing off, hitting another set before leaping to the next and running down it.

*SSHHIIIINNNGGG!!*

Astaros jumped off and cut bisected another chain, shattering it as he dropped to the solid ground and rolled.

Dashing forward he leaped over stones and barreled through crags as the chains followed him all the while.

He then jumped up casting a shadow over raven in one of the crevices as she whipped around to face him.

He dodged some form of spell by twisting in the air and came down on her with the Shattered Star to end the battle.

*VVOOOOMMMMMMM*

As he neared her space distorted and stretched, his blade unable to reach her as she seemed to get farther away.

By the time the spell was over he was on the ground just out of reach of Raven, a magic circle forming in front of her.

"ONID VASNOS!!" {Raven}

The full force or a void cannon struck Astaros head on, sparks flying off his armor as the energy washed over him in thrumming waves.

He then outstretched his hand, his teeth gritting as his fingers pierced through the oncoming blast as he reached for the magic circle. His eyes closed as he guided himself to the flow of grey mana.

His hand lit up in a pure white flame as he grabbed the magic circle. Rearing back his arm holding the Shattered Star he then brought it down and cleaved the circle in half, blowing it up and blasting back Raven who was knocked unconscious by the clash of energy.

The void cannons blast that was crashing into him abruptly stopped causing him stagger forward as he exhaled a breath which turned to steam as it exited into the wavering, boiling air.

The ground between him and Raven was scorched black, while glowing orange fissures blew out steam. He had defeated all three opponents. His damage core glowed as he sheathed his blade within his chest.

This was the Destroyers victory.

Sorry this took so long.

I did several versions of this fight and in the end this one felt the best, though I do wish I had done a 2 v 1 of Dryis and Katia vs Astaros. Instead I did a 3 v 1 one with a support and two vanguards versus Astaros which ended with me just having Astaros dominate and playing things smart through the entire fight.

I guess that'll happen another time. Also the vote is super important so you should pay attention to that.
