The next morning, Chloe woke up from her hangover. She took in the surrounding that was both familiar and strange, and blinked.
Vaguely, she remembered how drunk she had been last night. But as to how she came back to Daniel's house, she hadn't the faintest idea.
Could it be that Daniel brought her back?
Her body felt smooth and free under the covers, and there was also the warmth of skin pressed against hers. Her heart skipped.
She suddenly understood it all, but didn't dare to look down. The unmistakably high-quality feeling of the quilt told her it was true.
"Finally, you woke up." The lazy, husky voice of Daniel Bruce came from above her head. "Move your head. It's heavy."
Chloe froze for a second before realizing she'd been using Daniel's arm as pillow. She hurriedly moved away from him.
It was also until then did she realize the board that had been used to separate them was gone.
"We…" Chloe asked in a hoarse voice, her mind going blind.
A class of water appeared before her. Daniel looked at her, holding the glass. "Drink it."
Chloe was so thirsty that she gulped it down holding Daniel's hand. The whole movement went naturally and smoothly.
When she wanted to get out of bed, she was stopped by pains all over her body and moaned. Now she was sure.
For a moment, Daniel didn't know what to say. Guess he'd have to settle scores with her on what happened last night later.
He got up and got dressed. Looking coldly at Chloe that was still lying in bed, "Get up, we need to talk."
Chloe paused and nodded slowly.
When she was getting ready in the bathroom, she tried all her might to remember what happened last night, but failed. She stared at her disgraced self in the mirror, her heart thumping fast.
So, despite her efforts to stop it from happening, it still did.
Daniel was sitting quietly in the dining room. Seeing Chloe come down all dressed and cleaned up, he couldn't help but feel his heart flutter.
He missed last night's real touch and gentleness, and for that, he mocked himself.
Stop acting like a teenage boy.
"Mr. Bruce, I'm sorry for last night." Chloe sat down next to Daniel, taking the initiative. "We are both grown-ups. It's normal for that kind of thing to happen. I hope it won't cause any distress to either one of us."
The words immediately brought Daniel out of the sweet nostalgia. His face darkened.
"Chloe Johnson, do you have any idea what you are talking about?" Daniel's jaw clenched.
Picking up the knife and the fork as if nothing had happened, Chloe went on, "I do. Well, you have more experience than me in that area. I believe you know what I'm talking about."
Daniel, "..."
In fact, Chloe was trying hard not to laugh. She knew too well if this was Daniel's first time or not. It was actually kind of funny, picking on him like that.
Men, especially men like Daniel Bruce, didn't usually say "I was a virgin" in front of a woman.
Daniel approached Chloe, "You think you can eat me and then leave? Too bad, there's no such thing as free dinners."
His handsome face was magnified before her eyes. His cool breath danced with hers on top of her nose.
Chloe wondered how Daniel could always so easily influence her. His charm tempted her like candy.
It was not easy to give it up.
"Your cheeks are burning." Daniel's voice, hot and moist, purred by her ear, sending shivers straight to her core.
She froze, her fork-holding hand paused in the air.
Suddenly, the noise of a chair moving ripped through the flirty tension.
Sasha sat down with a long face, making more noise along the way. Chloe frowned.
Calmly, Daniel glanced at Chloe before addressing Sasha. "What's wrong? Having a fit so early in the morning?"
Sasha didn't dare act up in front of Daniel. She retrained herself, "Daniel, I've been staying here for so long, when can I start my internship?"
Daniel was surprised at her request. He raised his eyebrows and looked to Chloe, who was wholeheartedly focusing on her breakfast.
But while she paid no attention to him, her ears were all red.
"Starting tomorrow, you will work at CS Entertainment owned by Mr. Ryan White. And be humble. You are just an intern, not anyone's daughter or relative."
Sasha's eyes lit up, and she grinned evilly at Daniel, "I knew you cared about me, Daniel. Unlike someone, I don't stay in other people's houses and do nothing."
Undisturbed, Chloe continued eating her breakfast.
Seeing that her fist only punched somewhere soft, Sasha wouldn't stop, "By the way, you must have gone through a lot to deal with that photo incident, right Daniel? I can't believe anyone would be so careless and ungrateful as to fool around with the wrong sort."
"Say that again." Chloe put down her fork and knife, giving Sasha an icy stare.
For a second, the confrontation left Sasha at a loss, then she continued, "What? Did I get it wrong? Didn't you get all drunk with a man in a club? Didn't Daniel, someone who had just had surgery, go through all that trouble to get you out? Have you no shame?"
"Whatever I do is none of your business. If you care about your Daniel so much, why don't you stay and attend to him? I'm not stopping you."
Rage suddenly took over Sasha. Chloe was right, Sasha was the least qualified person to take care of Daniel. She was too spoiled to be willing to do such a hard job.
"Tomorrow, I'll start working, unlike some lazy, shameless parasite here!" Sasha stormed off, having not even touched her breakfast.
The milk in front of Chloe suddenly became tasteless.
"Last night, the other guy was K?" Daniel was the first one to speak. The warmth in his voice was now gone.
Chloe nodded, not planning to explain too much. "He's a friend. Here to help me solve my problem."
It hurt Daniel that Chloe would rather ask her friend for help than depend on him. She had no idea about all the investigations and effort he had gone through for her, and she probably wouldn't even care.
