When the two of them finally managed to buy some food at the cafeteria several minutes later, they sat side by side at one of the tables, and they were quiet as they ate. Gage wanted to say something to fill the silence, but he noticed that Flynn seemed content to remain quiet and enjoy the meal, so he changed his mind. He was almost done with his second sandwich when Flynn abruptly banged their legs together underneath the table. Gage glanced at Flynn and raised his eyebrows while continuing to bite into his sandwich.
“Can I ask you something?”
“You just did.”
Flynn laughed. “Asshole! I’m serious, man.”
Gage chuckled. “Sure. What is it?”
“I know your parents and brothers all live in Missouri, but are you planning to move back home after graduation next year? Or are you going to try your luck here in New York City?”
“The latter.”
“Oh, cool.”
“Why did you want to know?”
