He got into his bed, cradled the phone to his ear and heard, “Who’s going to make sure you get up? It is late.”
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll set the alarm and unlike you, I won’t sleep through it.” Bobby laughed.
“It was only once…”
“And Zach almost caught us.” I wonder if he would have dumped me if they found out. “I’ll call you in the morning. I know you wake up if the phone rings, like one of Pavlov’s dogs.”
“You irreverent little shit.”
“But I’m your irreverent little shit, at least for the time being.”
“For the time being…” Keith’s voice sounded a little off. Bobby wondered what was up. Could it be he cared, even a little?
“I think you’re tired, so I’m going to say goodnight. I’ll see you in the morning.” If I don’t hang up, I’ll do something stupid like ask to meet Keith at his house instead of Jason’s. “Goodnight, Keith.” Bobby pressed call end and gently put down the phone.
