“I’m not saying that I believe in ghosts, but I can’t say that they don’t exist. Carlos isn’t the first person to say he sees them. Plenty of people believe in that. Even Virginia believes him, at least I think she does.”
Beto nodded. “Okay, fair enough. But did they go so far as to say that they saw them in the mirror, and that they were trying to get messages to them?” Beto was hoping his words made sense to Eugenio.
“Like I said, I don’t know ‘cause it’s never happened to me. I know your brother. He isn’t crazy.”
Beto got up from his desk and walked over to the window. Eugenio didn’t look back, but he could feel Beto getting closer.
“No, you don’t know him. Not like I do.” Beto paused for a moment before speaking again. “When you said he was with you that night, what did you mean?”
“I told you: We spent the night together.”
“Then that’s what all this is about. You’re falling for him, aren’t you?”
