Dan wiped his mouth. He could still taste breakfast. Smiling and taking a deep breath, he made sure no evidence of the morning meal was apparent on his clothing.
He thought he heard Bill’s voice and that of another man through the door. Dan listened. However, he couldn’t quite understand what was being said. He hoped it didn’t look suspicious if whoever it was had seen Bill coming out of his office. Cautiously he opened his door and went out to pick up his schedule. As he closed and locked his door, Marty, the young vet tech from small animal came out of the men’s room across from Dan’s office. He looked like he was upset.
“Marty?”
The young man stopped.
“You okay?”
“Yeah…yeah I’m fine,” he said in a small voice and walked in the direction of the kennels where the dogs and cats which were being treated or recovering from surgery were housed.
Dan watched him go, shrugged, turned, and went to the office to pick up his list of calls from Rose.
