Mark drove to the WBIS and parked near the rear door of the building. Neither he nor Deuce objected to taking the elevator to the third floor.

Max looked up from his desk as we walked in.

“Bonjour, Joe,” he said to the boy. “It’s nice to see you again.”

“Same here, Dr. Futé.”

“What do you have for me today, M’sieur Vincent?”

“Three babies. We need to make sure they’re okay.”

“I’ll summon Dr. Paget to assist me.”

“Good idea.”

“You might need these also.” Trip reached into the tote that held the diapers and withdrew the files for the babies.

“Merci.” Max took them and glanced over them quickly. “Hmm. Très intéressant.” He set them aside on his desk. “Joe, would you like to play a game on my computer? I’m afraid all I have is solitaire.”

“Thanks.” He sat before the computer and pulled up the game but grumbled sotto voce, “Doesn’t anyone play Tomb Raider?”

“I guess not, kiddo. Don’t get into trouble. We’ll be in the exam room.”
