Reason why second tier magic is harder than first is that you've got to consume large amounts of mana to release.
If you don't have that, you got to have almost perfect control of your own mana.
Doesn't need to be mana you can gain from other sources, just the mana that you can use inside you body.
Even though I don't have good control over my mana, I can use quite a bit of mana.
This saves me from having to go through years of training just to release a simple second tier spell.
Though this does mean that I'd be sacrificing some of the strength of the spell.
At least for now, my mana is sufficient for at least...
