[ Seraphina's POV ]

I was startled out of sleep and my heart rate calmed a bit once I saw Kiera sleeping by my side, curled up and resembling a kitten.

She was between me and the wall, so if anyone wanted to see her, they would need to look over me.

I pulled the blanket to cover her, and she stirred.

I missed Duke all the time, but when it was quiet like this I missed him the most. I used that longing to motivate myself to keep moving. The faster I finished this, the sooner I could reunite with my man.

The slave girl was lying on the floor with her eyes open wide, staring at the ceiling.

"Are you awake, Master?" she asked.

"What's the time, Zethu?"

She glanced toward the window. "It's early morning."

"Did you sleep well?"

Zethu was visibly surprised by my question, and it took her a few moments to answer. "It was the best sleep I had in a long time. How can I serve you?"
