Kapitel 18: Forward

Spoons hanging in air, the females at the table stayed still for a second, which seemed like an eternity to Aleanor. Even though everyone had already started feigning an indifference to the apparent fact that their new friend was the Princess' offspring, Aleanor felt that the slight moment that had passed between the two seemed indecent.

She was unable to look at the child, though every inch of her being wanted to. And it was not about the fact that Haz'th seemed to be a bit resentful towards his mother, or even that she now knew what the wheelbarrow in front of his house was for. She just knew.

"So, what do you suppose our next stop should be? Should we continue towards the Misty Mountains of the Dream Isles, as my mother suggested?" Nimuel asked.

"I see no other alternative. I would visit the place, if I must." She sighed.

"What is wrong with the Misty Mountains? I thought it is a good place, my mother said that so," Nimuel asked.

"I am not sure how good the place is," the Princess said in a grave voice, "every time I think of that place, I see an ominous shadow lurking in a corner of my... mind, you can say."

"It is just a feeling, isn't it, Princess?" Aelanor asked, "you are probably wary of an unknown place."

Haz'th looked at Aelanor like he would probably take a dig at her, but Saayan interrupted, "No, it is not a feeling. Shadows don't have feelings."

"You don't say." Haz'th mumbled.

Saayan hesitated before continuing to Aelanor, "Shadow creatures possess basic emotions, like love, hate, anger, happiness, grief, but not in mass. Lesser feelings, like fear, intuition, bravery- these are not present in shadows. No, I was talking about a very real, very consolidated form of a shadow- that is to say, it exists. For real.

That place has something ominous going on."

There was a silence as everyone contemplated her words. Finally, Aelanor addressed Haz'th.

"Haz'th, you told us of the Generals, remember? The black market that connect all the worlds. Do you think you can lead us through that way?"

"Yes, I suppose I could. But where?" the child asked.

"Probably to the Golden Barrows. A lot of creatures live together there. We should try that place."

"You are right. But is it honestly the best decision to leave the Misty Mountains just for the ominious shadow? For all we know, this particular shadow could be another augmentation of the curse that we are looking into," Haz'th offered.

Saayan mulled over this. "I suppose he is right. We don't know the exact nature of the shadow, so it could be anything. Perhaps we will find some new information in this land as well."

"So, shall we get a move on, then?" Aelanor asked.

"I suppose."

"To new allies," Nimuel held up her wine.

"To new allies, and friends," Haz'th smiled.
