Kapitel 38: Encircled
It was lucky coincidence that Jasper had the affinity with fire. Otherwise he could have been burnt into ashes by that sneak attack.
The area near the tree grew bright because of the fire attack from the bird. It was already dusk with little to no sunlight.
A huge fire such as that couldn't go unnoticed. More beasts were attracted from the fire and came near them.
Seeing the attention they were getting from the dozens of beast made them regret their decision of approaching Roan.
"What do we do now" said Lucas with a panicked voice.
Jasper did not say anything. He was not critically wounded by the fire attack because of his fire affinity but still it did not mean that he was unaffected by the attack.
His upper clothes were burnt and there were marks of his skin scorching. Only by seeing his skin could one imagine the pain of victim.
Jasper did not scream though, he swiftly dodged and prepared himself to attack the gigantic bird.
Roan together with Lucas and Jasper also dodged and retreated with ease.
He was about to suggest Lucas and Jasper to retreat slowly before he found his body condition.
'My reaction speed has significantly increased, the pain from burnt is also nothing more than rise in temperature.'
He recalled the changes to his status after the system upgrade.
'The only change to my bloodline is I have officially steeped into Human first level. But that should not strengthen my body against fire' he thought
'In ancient time, humans were inherently very strong but they still did not had ability to control elements.'
'Is it the Resistance stat?? Humans in ancient times did have strong body, if they could not control elements that would mean they had high resistance to element.'
"So it's the Resistance stat then. Before the system upgrade I did not have resistance stat which means I got it only after unlocking the human bloodline" he finally joined the pieces of information and formed a plausible explanation.
"Nevertheless, I still want to keep my rank as F. I don't want to spend my stats if its possible to do it without it." Roan said
He did not want to put stats to abruptly gain strength. He already had enough stats to fight an intermediate tier beast at its peak.
It was enough for him to survive and lay low in academy.
He glanced at Jasper and Lucas to see how they were doing. Lucas was preparing his skill which took around ten seconds to prepare.
As for Jasper, he was already ready to fight with flames reinforcing his body. Both Lucas and Jasper knew that they could not hold back.
They had their life on the line. They didn't wish to fight every beast present but only enough for them to escape.
That's why Lucas asked Roan for his suggestion. He was not sure what to do but acknowledging Roan's strength he was willing to follow Roan.
Jasper also did not say anything and waited for Roan to answer Lucas. He knew Roan had strength enough to go toe to toe with an intermediate tier beast and kill it.
He had no concern for Roan's life. He believed that Roan could easily escape from their current predicament. The reason he wanted to sound out Roan was to ask him for help.
He had no doubts that Roan would help them. But he wanted to make sure if the other party had plans.
If Roan did not have any plan then he could only escape by himself.
'With Roan and Lucas fighting, I can easily escape from here.' Jasper thought warily
Roan did not think of any plan but he was confident in his strength. Now that even his system had fully unlocked, he could very well go all out.
He also wanted to test out the result of immense pain he went through during his system upgrade.
With the attack from the giant fire spewing bird, he found out about his fast reflexes and resistance to attack.
He still had many things to examine. It was best for him to try his new strength on beasts rather than alone by some crude methods.
He looked at the giant bird which spewed fire on the tree a second ago.
"Let's fight our way out. There's no way we would be able to escape with all of the beast ganging up on us." Roan said while checking out the bird.
"With the upgrade of system, I think the issue regarding the Inspect skill must have been solved." Roan thought
Earlier it was only possible to use inspect twice in half an hour. Only that two times could he check the stats of an intermediate tier beast without a backlash.
It was because that he learnt a skill similar to what he would after level 10, before the upgrade of system. Thus, the system limited the usage of skill.
Now that his system was upgraded he had no such qualms. He could use inspect like any other skill.
He glanced at the giant bird and used inspect quickly.

"It is just an average beast" Roan sighed in relief. He was unsure of his new strength that was why he was still wary.
Jasper was already on his way to attack the Lava albatross. Roan did not waste time and used reinforce.
"hmm? the energy feels more easy to control. It feels like my sensitivity and control both increased significantly."
He glanced around him and found that there were already three beasts hiding in the dark, ready to attack.
"They are already encircling us, it does not seem possible to escape without a serious battle." Roan said grimly
His words did not go unheard, Lucas was close to him and listened his muttering.
Lucas frowned then looked around, he was not blessed with skill like Roan. He could only make out two beasts in surrounding after closely observing.
This only made him more scared. Because he could not even notice the third beast, he warily turned his skin to stone.
His skill had high concentration requirements but he couldn't care less and forcefully used it.
Roan dashed to one of the three beasts with Wind path and sent a punch with his full might.
It was a giant bear with mix of black and brown. Its height was approximately two meters.
He caught the beast unguarded and inflicted a severe injury in its chest.
The bear was sent flying and fractured most of its bones. It could only struggle to move but didn't succeed.
"Isn't it a little to weak?" Roan muttered
'It must have been because I caught it unguarded' he thought
He did not rush to finish the bear and glanced at Lucas. Lucas met his eyes and understood what Roan meant.
Lucas walked toward the bear to corner it as to not let it intervene in Roan's fight.
What Roan meant was actually to finish the Bear but Lucas was very wary of other beasts that were hiding.
He did not dare to let his guard down and be sneak attacked by some beast.
Roan did not bother with Lucas's reaction and quickly dashed to the second beast hiding near them.
Before he could dash to the second beast, a blue lightning struck him. The lightning was not very wide, only a size of human finger.
Roan did not dare underestimate the attack but he was already struck by it before he could dodge.
The lightning went straight into his right shoulder tearing a hole of two centimeters. It did not pierce his shoulder because of his high resistance but it was still a serious injury.
"This.." Roan did not expect the attack to be this fast. He knew that lightning attribute user excelled in speed and destruction but this was his first time realizing the truth.
"In the same tier there is no one who would be able to hunt it" he said grimly
He was rushing to the beast with Wind path which doubled his initial speed. He was still only able to save his heart from being pierced, not his shoulder.
He hesitated for a moment before deciding to rush to the beast again.
Because of his decisiveness he caught the sight of powerful beast which wielded lightning.
The beast was a normal rabbit of black color with a purple horn on its head. If not for the purple horn showing lighting being charged, he couldn't even imagine the rabbit to be this powerful.
"It is no use to check its stats now, even if I do then I won't be able to attack it. Its skill will likely get charged before i check its stats"
"It is not like learning the stats of a beast with such skill will help me fight it and defeat it easily." he thought
He did not waste more than a second in such thoughts and quickly dashed at the Purple horned rabbit.
He did want to use a weapon against it but he decided not to after recalling that his knife would be a conductor of electricity.
'It's best for me to attack it without any weapon. Anyways, I have gained resistance now.' he thought before dashing to punch the Purple horned rabbit.
