Kapitel 37: Human Bloodline

After half an hour of assault from a brutal pain, he finally heard a voice notifying the initiation of system upgrade.
The reconstruction of his body did not stop but the pain from it significantly lessened.
HOWL!!!
ROAR!!
Unlucky for him, he heard a number of beast roaring and howling.
Panicked, Roan stood up from the ground and quickly climbed a tree nearest to him.
He could hear several beasts roaming in the forest. It felt like they were searching for something, to be more accurate someone.
"Could it be that they are here for Mountain goat and Koala??" Roan thought
When he was still thinking how to escape from the herd of beast, he heard footsteps of humans.
He glanced at the spot from where the sound was coming and spotted Lucas and Jasper sprinting towards him.
They waved his hands towards him and were shouting something but their words were buried under howls amd roars.
"At least I will have enough time to complete the upgrade." Seeing his two teammates running to him made him feel relieved.
He could not hold two intermediate tier beast in his condition let alone a herd of beast which had hundred.
That was why when he saw Jasper and Lucas running to him, he felt that he could hold longer and complete the system upgrade.
"Once I complete the system upgrade, I can use my remaining 39 stats points to reinforce my stats."
"I can jump straight to Rank D with distribution of 10 stats points in each of my stats." he thought
But he could only distribute the stats after the system upgrade. While the system was in upgrade, he could not access his status screen.
To his surprise, the system upgrade complete notification showed up the moment Lucas and Jasper climbed the tree he was on.
But he could still not access it.
It needed more time to assimilate.
"What are you doing here?" Jasper asked while examining him
"how the hell did you manage anger a whole herd of beasts." Lucas exclaimed before Roan could reply.
" I did not " Roan said hesitatingly. He was only partially responsible for the beast herd and that only if the beasts were searching for their murdered kins.
He was not even sure if the beasts were actually searching for the ones he killed or rather for something else.
Jasper looked at him doubting his words but did not speak further.
'With tattered clothes and two intermediate tier beasts lying beheaded on the ground, you sure did nothing' Jasper thought with his mouth twitching.
He wanted to point out those BIG and CLEARLY VISIBLE evidence but restrained from speaking.
Lucas also glanced at the dead beast's but he did not think much of it.
Roan wanted to ask why they rushed here quickly even after seeing the beasts roaming in frenzy.
Seeing the agitation in Roan's eye, Jasper glanced around the area before speaking.
"There are two teams who have collaborated and are extorting beast crystals from everyone."
"Aren't the already registered beast crystals of no use in group rankings?" Roan said before a thought came to his mind.
"Are they...??" He asked seeking confirmation of his hypothesis.
"Yes, the beast crystals cannot be registered in their names doesn't mean that it has lost its primary value."
"They can use it to boost their training and can grow stronger in real time, leaving no way out for other teams" Jasper said
"Even if they do get punished after the trial then they would be able to shrug it off by saying they did not do it."
"Even If they do admit that they forcefully took our crystals then it would be their ability that allowed them to gain beast crystal, academy would not interfere." Roan realized the crux of circumstances
Even if they demand their crystal back from other teams outside of the trial then they would be simply rejected.
Not to think that they would admit that they took other's beast crystals but even if they admit then what could others do.
"We are already not able to retaliate in here, then how would we even be able to take our beast crystal back in the academy where there is strict rules against fight."
"They have planned it out very well. If we do fight back then we would not be able to win. They must have already absorbed all the beast crystals they had."
"Even if we do win, then we would not be in our peak condition thus making us easy target for other teams." Roan muttered
Jasper nodded at Roan's words and did not say much.
"So how did you get the news about beast crystal plundering?" Roan asked Jasper
"There is another key detail which we did not know earlier but after seeing it, it was easy to understand how everything took place." Jasper explained in riddles not directly telling the crux of matter.
Roan did not understand and was staring at Jasper, waiting for him to complete his words.
"Look at the current rankings" Jasper said indifferently to Roan's stare.
'Do you really have to talk in riddles when there are beasts and humans after us.' Roan thought
Nevertheless, he still clicked on his digital watch and scrolled into ranking. What he saw in rankings made his face twitch.
First group which had four intermediate tier beast crystal were reduced to zero beast crystals.
The Second group which was third in ranking made it to the top with eight intermediate tier beast crystal.
"They completely claimed their beast crystals?" Roan exclaimed in doubt
'Wasn't there a rule that no participant could scan already scanned beast crystal.'
'How could they completely claim the crystals from First group.'
He looked at Jasper hoping to hear an answer but then he realized that Jasper had same amount of information as him.
"It was only through rankings did Morris deduce that participants are able to claim the other team's possession."
"He did not say for sure but he thinks that it is not a voluntary giveaway. It is more likely to be a extortion of all the beast crystals in the First team's possession."
"After forcefully taking the beast crystals from them, the Second team must have tried to scan the beast crystals again as a whole and it was accepted."
"His theory is that if we claim the other party from most of their crystal and then try to scan it then it will work." Jasper explained
"This seems feasible" Roan nodded
'Academy would not be so kind to directly eliminate the infighting between groups when the reward is a beast skill.'
'These infighting would make the students more wary and might even help us against sneaky beasts' Roan thought
A message sounded in his head.
His lips turned into an arc, making his smile seem dangerous and creepy.
He was still thinking how to deal with this Second group when his bloodline upgrade assimilation message showed up.
Jasper and Lucas looked at his devious smile and frowned.
Roan opened his status screen and clearly noted the changes from upgrade.

He noticed that another stat has opened up RESISTANCE but it was slightly different than others.
While other stats looked normal, RESISTANCE was written in capital letters in an overbearing manner.
Another peculiar thing he noticed was that the Resistance stat was not grouped with other stats, it was a fair distance away from others.
Like it did not belong in a group of inferior stats like Strength, Stamina, etc.
Except for the appearance of new stat, there were two more changes in his stats which he noticed.
His level reset to Level 1 but the stats gained from his level up were still there. He did not notice any weakness in his body either, rather he felt more resilient.
The last change was actually his bloodline. Earlier it stated that he had a White bloodline with a number on it.
But after the system upgrade, the bloodline changed from White into Human. It did not show anything else except for Human (LvL 1).
"Is this another way to say that I do not have a bloodline but I am a mere normal human??" Roan thought to himself.
But he did not care for such things rather than saying that it was more accurate to say that he could not dabble in such thought.
Before he could analyse and experience his upgrade, the beast from herd already attacked Jasper.
They were all up on the tree but the beast was a flight capable bird with an abnormally giant body.
The giant bird beast did not attack them physically but used its mouth to spew fire.
It was lucky coincidence that Jasper had the affinity with fire. Otherwise he could have been burnt into ashes by that sneak attack.
