Kapitel 30: The P. A offer

I knock on his door before I entered.

"Good morning, boss." I smile at him as I placed the steaming coffee in front of him.

"Do I have a cause to be on guard?" He raised a brow at the coffee.

"No, you don't. Today's your lucky day, I guess." I sat on the chair opposite him.

"If you said so." He gave me a look before he took a sip of the coffee. "Not bad." He gulped down the steaming coffee in one go.

"Gods! " I hastily rose from the chair and ran towards him. "Are you alright? Did it scald you? Should I call the doctor? Is—"

" It's alright, Osy. It's only hot coffee. Moreover, I've drunk one that's hotter than this. See? " He stuck his tongue out. "I'm okay, you don't have to worry about me." He smirked.

" Who said I was worried about you? " I frown at him.

"Your eyes tell it all." He grinned, "you look like a nurse taking care of a petulant child."

"Prissy!" I fold my arms in anger. "The thank-you I should have gotten, for the coffee I bought, is now been teased?"

"Can you blame me for that?"

"You are insufferable!" I hit my palm on the table, and turn my glare at Mar.

The door to his office opened, and Salen walked in.

His eyes went to the hand I placed on the table before it skidded over to the face that's not far from Mar's.

"Good morning, Mr Salen." I rose from my position.

"Good morning, Mr Mar." He ignored perfectly me as he smiled at Mar.

Today, he's dressed in a red shirt and dark blue trousers. His custom-made shoe looks so smooth, that I would have loved to run my hand through it, had it not been for the fact he's like the Devil's Incarnate.

He just swooped right in and took the title from Mar without much struggle. It's as if the title was meant for him.

"Morning Sardine." Mar nods, "how was your night?"

" It's Salen and not Sardine." He balled his hand by his side.

"Sorry about that." Mar apologized in a not too sorry way. He looks as if he's a deriving joy from what he's doing.

"It's okay. My night was great, thanks for asking." He frowned at me, his eyes seems to urge me to leave.

" I think I'll take my leave," I said to Mar as I made to leave the office.

"Where are you going to?" He raised a brow at me.

"I have to complete my task for the day," I said the first lie that came to mind.

" Last I checked, you are through with the work allocated to you. The only task you have remaining is the project we have together."

"Oh, that? " I nervously scratch my hair, "Dozzy asked me to help him complete a task. He has exams due in a week."

This wasn't purely a lie. Dozzy does have exams coming up next week, but he didn't ask for my help.

"It's his work. He needs to figure things out by himself. Come sit here, we need to complete our project before the end of the week."

" We have to complete the proposal, isn't it?" He smiled at the boss, but I can tell the smile didn't reach his eyes at all.

"The team I gave the proposal to must be through with it already. I'll get back to you when they submit it."

"Oh, I thought we are to work on it together?"

"I would have done that with you, but I'm busy with the proposal stuff. I'll let you know when it's ready."

"About that. I have another work."

" Let's wait for the group to submit the proposal before we start talking of another one, okay?"

" But—"

" It's the way we work here. I don't like overwhelming my workers."

Says the male who gave me two different works at the same time.

I scoffed silently.

"What if we work on it together? I don't have any work in hand, neither do you—"

"And who said I have no work in hand?" Mar raised a brow at him.

" It's only a project, right?"

"This involves my company. That's why it needs my entire focus. I can't be rash in this."

" Sorry. I didn't mean to come out as rude."

" It's no problem." Mar said with a nod of his head before he turned to me in question, "why are you standing like a statue?"

"Par— pardon?" I blinked.

"I asked you to take a seat, and you're still standing? The project won't work by itself if you keep on standing."

"Sorry, boss, I'll get right into it." I walk over to the empty visitor's chair and sat on it in a not so graceful manner.

Salen shot a dark look my way. It was one capable of freezing me to the bone if it's possible.

If only looks can kill, I would have long died.

"You can take a leave. I'll tell my assistant to call you when you are—"

"You have an assistant?" I turn to Mar in surprise. "Did she recently start work?"

Why haven't I seen her?

Moreover, why haven't BB heard of it?

As the spreader of gossip in this office, she's supposed to be aware of everything that happens in the office.

"He hasn't started working for me, but he will soon."

"Who's it?"

"You are through with the creation of your allocated database. And that means your promise has been fulfilled. This means you are free to leave."

But I would rather not leave!

I wanted to shout but held myself. Not only because of Salen who's still sending those deadly glares toward me, but I would rather not sound desperate.

"I'm aware of that."

"The position is for you if you want it. I don't have any other person in mind, and you seem as if you know what the job entails."

" You want me to be your assistant?" I ask in surprise.

"If you want that is." He shrugged.
