Kapitel 2: Hurt Little Puppy

Inside the car, a few moments earlier…

"What the fuck?!"

A crisp curse came out of Dylan's mouth.

"What was that?" asked Ian, sitting on the passenger seat beside him.

"Damn! Did I just hit an animal?"

"I'm not sure, man. Everything happened so fast, and I was looking at my phone."

"Get down and check."

Before Ian could move, a static noise came from the electronic earpiece on both men. What followed was the commanding voice of their team leader, Chief Chan.

"Wolf One. What's the holdup? Everything ok?"

Dylan leaning on the wheel trying to get a better view of what they hit, answered, "I think we hit something. We're not sure. Ian's about to go and check."

After hearing that, Chief Chan riding inside the black Maybach behind them furrowed his brows. His awareness heightened.

If this happened to anyone else, they would probably assume nothing out of the circumstances, a simple road accident. But considering the status of the person who employed him and his current precarious situation. It's always safer to undertake precautions against possible threats.

Coming to a decision, Chief Chan mobilized the team.

"Alright, Wolf One, handle it. Provide an update. Wolf Three fan out. You know what to do."

A series of 'affirmative' followed.

Chief Chan then turned to inform the two men sitting in the back seat.

"Sir, I'm sorry there is a slight delay. Wolf one runs into something. We'll have to wait and check."

The younger of the two men, dressed in a dark Tuxedo, calmly raised his head from looking at his wristwatch. With a hum and a curt nod, cold steel grey eyes fixed their stare on Chief Chan.

Subjected to such intensity, the retired ex-special forces turned team leader was forced to admit one thing; even after so many years of serving the man, that icy stare never failed to unnerve him.

However, Chief Chan knows that the powerful presence was not unwarranted. It came from the accumulation of years surviving a cut-throat competition among heirs. After all, Draco Joaquin Sy had risen above all his adversaries at the young age of twenty-eight. Now sits at the top as the head of the entire Sy Business Empire. A feat no ordinary man can achieve.

At that same time, Draco, the protagonist of the chief's musings, heard frantic taps on the window next to him. A pair of hands kept pounding the bulletproof glass. Draco remained unfazed. Afterward, a beam of light shined, and a small face came into view. Through the tinted window, Draco met a pair of moist hazel orbs. The color was light and clear, so pure that it brought a shocking effect when seen against the grim and dirty face.

Draco had gazed upon many, but never had he seen eyes as pure and clean as the one he was seeing now. Interesting. Like a cute innocent puppy. It was quite a novelty for him. And right now, though it couldn't see him, it was imploring for help.

Next, Draco saw the owner of that eyes back away and got seized by his bodyguards.

From the side, Chief Chan spoke.

"It's a boy. Maybe at least fifteen considering his frame. He's injured. A gunshot wound on the leg. His unarmed and asking for help. But…"

Chief Chan let his words trail, unfinished. In his opinion, the boy was an unknown variable, a risk. Furthermore, they were traversing in the middle of a deserted street en route from one of the boss's private rest houses. Chief Chan was suspicious about why this boy appeared out of nowhere just as they passed by this area. It was too much of a coincidence.

Draco, whose focus of attention was still on the boy outside, hummed and added nonchalantly, "You think he's an assassin sent to kill me."

His tone was flat. As if they were merely discussing the weather, with no ups and down. However, the man's grey eyes steeled with ruthlessness flashing that even the gallant Chief Chan shuddered.

"It is not impossible. Your enemies are growing desperate. Previous attempts proved this is not beyond their limit of shamelessness."

"That's true. Maybe this is another ploy cooked up by the boss's vile relatives to eliminate him and steal his position."

Alex interjected, Draco's secretary joining the conversation for the first time.

Outside the car

Two men in a suit each grabbed an arm and searched Riley.

Vigilant, the rest circled the car he was previously knocking on.

They were holding guns and scanning the area.

"S-sir, please, help me. I swear, I'm not a bad person. Someone was chasing me. I beg you." Riley fumbled for words, pleading. His already weak voice trembling in desperation.

Just at that moment, the door of the Maybach opened. A tall man wearing formal clothes stepped out. A shorter bespectacled middle age man in a dull gray suit came after from the other side. Riley heard him call out, "Boss Draco, please, it is not safe. It's best for you to stay inside the car."

However, the man ignored him and sauntered towards Riley.

As he moved, the men in suits stepped to circle the man called Draco, forming a human shield. Each one appeared solemn and gave the impression they were willing to accept bullets anytime for the man in the center.

The hold on Riley's arms tightened as Draco neared him. About two steps away, Draco stopped, not saying anything. He just stood there and regarded Riley with an unfathomable stare. The teen had to crane his neck all the way up to meet the tall man's eyes. And when watery hazel did collide with cool grey, Riley felt oddly comforted. His fears abated. A smile slowly spread on his lips seconds before he fainted and lost consciousness.

Draco turned around. His eyes had a glint seemingly satisfied to have confirmed something.

Chief Chan then heard him say, "Bring the boy back."

What?!

Surprised, he started to reason, "Mr. Sy. Sir, I think it is unwise- "

But Draco cut him off.

"It is just a hurt little puppy, Chan. I trust your team can handle him enough."

Chief Chan was speechless, "..."
