Kapitel 5: The Key
(A/N: I wrote half of this chapter while in my class, just found it kinda funny. But with that said, this chapter is a little bit longer than the other ones.

After obtaining the five elixirs necessary for the 'Unique Mana Core' Quest I looked for a nearby place I could use to rest. I had looked for food since I hadn't eaten yet, and stumbled upon clueless shoppers within the district. My agility stat came in handy as I was able to steal pieces of bread, dried meat, and 3 silver coins under their noses.
I decided to find an Inn within the city, as that felt like the safest option at the moment considering I had just obtained some money. After searching and finally finding an Inn, I walked in and the lady over the counter immediately shot up out of her seat.
"What in Sapin's sake is a child doing in my Inn," the woman said, as she started making her way towards me.
"Are you a lost little boy? Have you been separated from your mother? We should go find her right away. Here how about you fo-," her voice cut off as I showed her a silver coin I drew out of my inventory.
"One room for eight nights please," I said, trying to mimic a child's voice. Her jaw slightly dropped.
"You've got to be kidding me. Am I even allowed to rent out a room to a child?" She mumbled to herself, pacing back and forth. She turned back towards me and bent down so our eyes met.
"I'm going to ask you to repeat yourself because I want to make sure you know what you are doing little boy. If I heard you straight you said you wanted a room for eight nights?" She asked, slight confusion showed on her face.
"Yes, one room for eight nights please," I repeated, putting on a smile as I held out my silver coin.
"Well…Money is money. Ok kid," she leaned in and put her hand out. I gave her the silver coin.
"Keep the change," I said. She smiled and bent down once more. "Well, aren't you a nice young man? I appreciate your generosity," she made her way behind the counter she had been staying at and grabbed a key.
"One room for eight nights, as requested," she held out the key and laid it on my hand. "You will be staying in room 3, enjoy your stay," she waved me off as I started walking up the stairs of the Inn.

I rested the whole night and It was finally morning. According to the system, I had eight beast core shards to get to complete the second part of the quest. It seemed like the only way to obtain the shards was from the 'Daily Quest.' Which meant that time was the biggest factor for the second part. It would take eight days-including this one to reach the 10/10 Objective. And with that in mind I got ready for the exercises of the 'Daily Quest.'
'Eight days including today," I thought to myself, "that's not too long.'

It was now the eighth and final day for my beast core shards. The sun was bright, the rays beaming through the windows of the Inn.
I made my way out of the Inn, the women at the counter waving me off. "Man, I have never been so excited to do the daily quest," I said to myself.
I hadn't really done anything the past seven days other than the daily quest, exploring the city and sleeping. Though after coming across an adventuring shop I made a purchase using one of the two silver coins I had left. Since I had no weapons I thought that a small dagger wouldn't be a bad idea. And with the last silver coin, I decided to stock up on food. My purchases now reside in my inventory, waiting to be used.
Before heading off to complete the daily quest, I wanted to take a look at my stats once again.

I had distributed the 21 stat points that I had been awarded throughout the seven daily quests.
'It might not look like much, but I can tell im making good progress.' I thought to myself. I wasn't sure what I was going to do or where I was going to go after forming my 'Unique Mana Core,' but I speculated that the system would have missions or dungeons for me.
I was very excited to form my 'Unique Mana Core,' as I had lots of ideas I wanted to test, and with the core I would be able to unlock the 'Mangekyou Sharingan,' and with that the 'Kamui,' which was vital for my survival in the future.
I looked over at my shaking hand. "I'm this excited huh? Well let's get going," I said as I started on my 10km run.

'Confirm.' I said in my mind.

'A fourth reward? This can't be a coincidence.'
'Confirm.'
The refreshing effect of the 'Status Recovery' breezed through me as I spotted both the 'Beast Core Shard' and the 'Gate Key' that I had been awarded.
'Lets see what this is all about.' I thought to myself. I put the Beast Core shard in my inventory and picked up the 'Gate Key.'

A key that transports you to a designated location. Designated location: Forest of Elshire. To use, hold the key and twist to the right.
'The Forest of Elshire. Tess?' I asked myself as it was the first thing that came to mind.
As the thought brought happiness to my mind, anger started to set in. 'That's right, she gets kidnapped by slave traders.'
Even though I wasn't sure of when Arthur and Sylvia were going to part ways, this felt too early. 'I don't think Tess is getting kidnapped for a couple days at least, or maybe weeks.' I had no time to tell me when this would happen, but I did eventually want to meet Arthur...and Tess. I shook my head and looked at the key once again.
'This is very useful but why be awarded this now? This definitely isn't random. If I recall correctly, Jin-Woo had obtained his first dungeon key from a 'Random box,' which was awarded from the 'Daily Quest.' But my situation is different, the key wasn't through a Random box nor was I ever awarded one. It was given to me directly as a reward, so this must have something to do with the 'Form Unique Mana Core' quest which should now be completed.' The sound of a bell brought me out of my thoughts.

'What? Another part was added to the quest?'
I looked at the key in my hand. 'A Fresh Beast Core, one can no doubt be found within a Mana Beast in the Forest of Elshire. But will I be able to kill a mana beast? The quest doesn't specify a certain mana beast so if I could kill a small mana beast and get my hands on its core that should suffice. But if not, then I've got a big problem on my hands. (A/N: I don't know whether small mana beasts can have mana cores, so i'm going to presume that they can, and if I'm wrong, then for the sake of the fanfic let them have mana cores.

'To be able to kill a mana beast takes strength, even if they happen to be on the little side.' I started scratching the back of my head.
'All three points go to Strength stat.'
'Tti-ring.' The bell rang.

'I was planning on heading out today, even though I still had this night paid for at the Inn. But with this new part added to the quest I might as well stay the night, do my daily quest in the morning and add the three points to the Strength stat once again.'

Once again standing in an alleyway, I looked at the stats displayed in front of me, the recently updated Strength stats receiving three additional points.
'Now that my last night at the Inn is over and I completed my daily quest, I think it's time to set out.' I had provisions for when needed and a dagger for the fight ahead.
I pulled the 'Gate Key' out of my inventory, reading over its description once again.
"A key that transports you to a designated location. Designated location: Forest of Elshire. To use, hold the key and twist to the right," I mouthed out loud.
"'Hold the key and twist to the right,'" I said as I imagined and mimicked the motion.
*Warp*
The key suddenly warped itself into a blue like moving portal as It immediately started sucking me in. "What the hell! Not again!" I shouted out my last words as the portal took me.

The portal threw me out as I landed on a patch of leaves surrounded by dirt and tall trees.
'That felt really weird. I wonder if this was similar to how Arthur felt when being transported by Sylvia?' I asked myself inside my head.
I raised my head, looking up I saw a mana beast, it was still as a log, its eyes staring into mine. The mana beast and I were about the same size. It had the face of a frog but the ears and body of a dog.
"Crack!" The sound of a branch snapping echoed throughout the forest.
The mana beast started growling, its fangs showing themselves. The growling grew louder and louder until it slightly lowered its head and all its movement stopped.
My eyes widened, fear showing on my face as the mana beast started sprinting at me. 'I-I can feel its killing intent.' I thought to myself as I quickly reached out. A dagger could be seen forming into my hand as the beast was almost at its prey.
The beast ran up on a log that was separating us, overcoming the log it jumped at me as I swung my dagger. "GAHHH!" A war cry came out of my mouth as my blade connected to the beast's neck. Though it did not connect for long as it continued its momentum and sliced through the flesh.
'Tti-ring.'
[You've killed a Forest-Fang Bullfrog]
[Level up!]
I fell backwards after taking the beast's life, realisation started to sink in as my body hit the bumpy dirt ground.
'My first kill.' I thought to myself, guilt flowing in my head. A laugh shortly blocked the terrible feeling.
"Hahaha! My first kill." I laughed.
'Unfortunately for the mana beast, he was the prey, though I doubt he knew that.' I got up on my feet and went up to the corpse. I felt like puking, but I held it in. The stat window displayed itself to the right of the corpse. 'Oh right, I leveled up.'

'A single stat was added to my stats, and my 'Health' went up as well, rewards from the 'level up.' We're making good progress.' I looked over at the corpse once again.
"Sorry big guy, I don't mean to disrespect your body, but you have something I need," I said as I brought my dagger to its stomach.
After a few minutes of cutting I put both my hands inside its body, until I had obtained the fruit of my labor. 'There you are.' The spheric object and all its glory now in my hands.
I smiled as I put The beast core inside my inventory. 'One Fresh Beast Core, check.' I said in my mind.
"Crack!" The sound of a branch cracking once again echoed through the forest. My attention went straight towards the sound. I quickly turned around, an unknown object swung at me.
'What th-.'

(A/N: Yeah I know a 4 year old boy with no mana just killed a mana beast. Definitely some bullshit , but for the sake of fiction let's roll with it, yeah? Anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter even though half of it was boring stuff.
