3.12% Pokemon - Alex Burns / Chapter 3: Chapter 003

Kapitel 3: Chapter 003

"What the hell?" exclaimed Alex. This wasn't some random cheat he gained through rebirth. The style of text and the arrangement were very familiar to him. He even remembered the abbreviation for 'level' that he had put in and was too lazy to change in the final stage of the development of this cheat.

This was the cheat that he developed. Not on his own, but he was the planner and executor of this cheat.

He was playing a random fanmade game of Pokemon, one among thousands in his previous life. In the game, in the end, there were a bunch of ridiculously overpowered NPCs who had max-level Pokemon and would kick your ass constantly, if you tried challenging them. They had Pokemon with perfect IVs and EVs, with a positive nature, and would ridicule you constantly after they inevitably beat you. To challenge them, you need to have your own Pokemon with perfect IVs and EVs with a positive nature. He completed all parts of the game except for this particular segment, and wanted to complete it, not because of OCD or anything, just because he wanted to kick the asses of those arrogant jerks.

He tried to breed the perfect Pokemon, but a lot of different Pokemon were needed to effectively deal with those NPCs as they had balanced teams for which you need an equally balanced team to fight. He managed to put together a couple of teams with relatively perfect Pokemon by breeding and training and defeat a couple of those NPCs, but felt it to be too dreary from the third. Hence he decided to jack the game to quicken the acquisition of perfect Pokemon.

He was a programmer working for a video game company and had the know-how of the game's workings. He tweaked some parts of the game to force it to always spawn perfect pokemon in wild encounters. All he had to do was catch a few of that pokemon, and inevitably one of them would have the desired nature. Boy was he wrong.

After getting 2 boxes full of Ralts, more than half of which had an Adamant nature, and finding none of them had a Modest nature, he was fed up. With the help of some like-minded friends he had previously made over the internet, he created a cheat that would display the ability, moves, and nature of the Pokemon. Since he couldn't leave any value of the Pokemon out, he made a training tab to denote EVs, which would be None for wild Pokemon, and the seven colours of the rainbow for IVs, with Red for low IVs and Voilet for high IVs.

Now, it seemed that the cheat he made had travelled with him, and was seemed to be working. Wanting to test it further, he looked at a nearby Pidgey and focused on the black sphere in his head. He immediately saw the familiar text.

Pidgey

Gender - Female

Lvl - 3

Type - Normal/Flying

Held item - None

Ability - Keen Eye

Moves - Tackle, Sand Attack

Nature - Hardy

Training - None

Potential - Red

Wanting to try again, he looked at a nearby Oddish that was chilling in the sun.

Oddish

Gender - Male

Lvl - 4

Type - Grass/Poison

Held item - None

Ability - Chlorophyll

Moves - Absorb, Growth, Acid

Nature - Lax

Training - None

Potential - Red

Excited at the prospect of a cheat that helped him identify the potential of pokemon, he went around the park, trying to find the potential of every Pokemon in sight.

He found that all 14 Rattata he saw had red potential. 8 Pidgey had red potential, while 1 had orange potential. As for the Oddish, 4 had red potential, 4 had orange potential, while 2 had yellow potential. But comparing their levels, they were nearly identical, with the maximum difference being one level.

"The levels of Pokemon seem to not be affected by their potential. There is a level 2 yellow potential Oddish and a level 6 red potential Oddish here. Either the potential matters less in early stages, or potential has no effect on improving levels, and just like IVs, they only give increased stats during battle" pondered Alex.

Another thing he noted was that all the pokemon in the park had their training listed as 'None.' While it would make sense for wild Pokemon to have blank EVs in a game to allow the player to train it in the way he wants, it makes no sense in this case. He saw two Rattata fight over a berry, and one of them being knocked out. But the training level of both of them still was displayed as 'None.'

"Maybe EVs are not a thing here, or maybe they work differently, or are exclusive to trainers. I need to see a trainer's Pokemon just to be sure" thought Alex.

But there were hardly any trainers in Hurik town, and the few that were would never entertain him.

"Guess there is only one way to see a trainer's Pokemon" concluded Alex after some brief thinking. "I need to go to the Pokemon Center and see Chansey"
