Kapitel 102: Part 10 - Who ordered sushi? 24/??

Ultimately, after an impromptu meeting, the captains, sending their subordinates away, decided to speak with "The Queen" without any backup to avoid inadvertently provoking anyone. Just to talk. None of them wanted to risk unnecessarily. Moreover, they hoped that the higher-ups would understand their situation and that they wouldn't be demoted for cowardice. Especially if they could learn about the events from the horse's mouth.

To the incredible surprise of all three captains, the conversation went much better than they had hoped. Little did they know that Nami's adoptive mother had once been a marine herself, which made Nami more sympathetic to the Marines than any other member of her family. But even under such favorable conditions, the conversation was extremely brief. Nami only confirmed the captains' suspicions about the corruption of Nezumi and his team, and the fact that their team had raised the pirate flag. The captains were particularly displeased with this news, especially the latter. A corrupt marine captain was an unfortunate event and a dishonor to their uniforms, but such news paled in comparison to the fact that world-famous pirate hunters had now become pirates themselves. The consequences of such an event promised to be extremely problematic, if not catastrophic. Not to mention that none of the captains could even imagine—or wanted to imagine!—how they would fight the "Pirate Slayers" in the future. It was certain death! The captains and their men left the celebration in extremely distressed spirits.

Meanwhile, the festival continued. Thanks to the "sacrifice" of Momo — the Sea Cow in the service of the dead Arlong — that the guys managed to retrieve from the bottom of the sea, there was no shortage of food, and several distilling machines ensured a steady supply of drinks.

By the fourth day of the festivities, even Zoro, who had been drinking non-stop, was exhausted and had practically stopped leaving Nami and Nojiko's house. The house was somewhat distant from the village, so it was not disturbed much. He was mainly accompanied by Nojiko and occasionally by Nami. The girl wasn't so much celebrating as catching up on lost time, spending days and nights talking with the villagers she was close to.

On the fifth day, Johnny joined Nojiko and Zoro. He was certainly quite a guy, but even he had his limits. And he didn't have Yosaku's fruit. The lucky bastard showed up only at the end of the sixth day, when the festivities were finally starting to wind down. Yosaku looked so pleased with himself that Johnny, without any preliminaries, kicked him just to wipe that smug grin off his face. It didn't work. They both knew that in this arena, Johnny would never win. Never.

"Touch my sister, and you'll end up at the bottom of the sea," Nami warned the guys when they all gathered together under one roof for the first time in seven days.

"Nami, I'm an adult now, so let me decide who I sleep with," Nojiko rolled her eyes.

"I'm not telling you what to do; I'm just warning them… And since you brought it up, is it just me, or are you sitting awfully close to Zoro?" Nami shot a suspicious look at the pair.

Nojiko and Zoro were indeed sitting at the table next to each other, though there was no need to do so. Nami was at the stove, Yosaku was sitting on the floor with his back against the wall, and Johnny was sprawled out on the bed with his arms behind his head, so there was plenty of space at the table. Yet Nojiko had chosen to sit right next to Zoro, literally shoulder to shoulder, even though she was chopping vegetables for a salad and needed more space. It was impossible not to find it suspicious.

"Nami, you're joking, right?" Johnny, stretching lazily, stated the obvious. "Our Zoro is interested in nothing but swords and fighting."

"Do you know how many times we tried to drag him out anywhere?" Yosaku asked, smirking condescendingly.

Zoro silently stared into his cup of tea, while Nojiko continued chopping vegetables without a word. Their silence was so eloquent that Johnny and Yosaku stared at them with wide eyes within seconds. Nami had disappeared from the stove, only to reappear behind the green-haired swordsman with a kitchen knife in hand. As soon as Zoro saw the blade, he hastily began to wonder if it had originally been black or if Nami had somehow awakened the armament Haki.

"I think I warned you," Nami growled, flames practically coming out of her eyes. "I hope you're ready for the… oh!" Nami did not finish as she let out a small scream and jumped aside when Nojiko, without ceremony, jabbed her with a fork. Thanks to her fruit, Nami avoided the immediate "attack" from her sister, but the cold metal's touch was too surprising.

"Seriously, Nami, enough, " Nojiko said without a hint of a smile. "I'm an adult and don't need supervision."

"But, but… he won't even stay with you!" Nami exclaimed, deeply outraged.

Zoro, who had been keeping his eyes on Nami's knife, visibly relaxed.

"As if I didn't know that," Nojiko rolled her eyes and returned to chopping vegetables.

"I hope we can at least avoid nephews?" Nami cast a gloomy look at Zoro, who had buried his face in his cup, trying to make himself as small and invisible as possible. It was a hopeless cause, and that was clear from the start, even to him. Nevertheless, desperate times called for desperate measures.

Zoro had never been in such a situation before, so he didn't know how to react. Nojiko wasn't his first woman, but unlike the others, she was almost family. Moreover, Zoro wasn't planning to do anything like that. They were just drinking wine together, and Nojiko was asking about Nami's life, and somehow, they unexpectedly ended up in the same bed. Now, Zoro felt genuinely guilty. It was one thing to be with women he barely knew, and quite another with Nami's sister.

"Don't worry, I'm not planning on becoming a mom yet."

Zoro was surprised to realize he breathed a sigh of relief as soon as he heard Nojiko's response. He hadn't even noticed how he had held his breath in fear. How embarrassing!

"But why Zoro specifically?" Nami glared at the swordsman. "I warned you to stay away from him."

"So, I should jump into bed with one of those womanizers?" Nojiko shot a cold glance at Johnny and Yosaku, who were still in shock from the sudden turn of events.

Nojiko understood why so many women ended up in bed with them. The guys deserved that attention, but she didn't approve of how that attention had manifested. There should be some decency. It was unacceptable for women to literally line up to jump into bed with any man they liked. And in this case, any of them! Nojiko had never been prissy, but one shouldn't forget about their own pride and happiness!
