"Yes and no. My father-in-law finally passed, he had a five-year battle with cancer so that was a blessing on his part. No, because Nina is still trying to get us back together. Apparently, the man she's with is not doing it for her anymore, aka, he's learned her manipulative ways and is not putting up with them." His voice took on an evil tone and a picture formed in my mind of an evil grin on his face.

"What did you do?" I asked almost afraid to breathe.

"I told her she could go back to the man she left me for. I didn't have time for her dramatics because I had to get home to a beautiful sub," he told me.

I felt warmth rise in me and I knew in an instant that I had fallen hard. Despite all the concerns and all the fear, I knew at that moment that I loved him.

DAMN IT.

I opened my mouth to tell him so. But the moment was ruined as I heard another voice on the other end.

"Damn it, Nina. What the hell do you want?" I heard him growl.
