Chaos errupted in the Kingdom of Keragania as soon as the news of Dark King's Army approaching the borders spread like rapid fire.
My heart was drumming in my ears as Crown Prince Kylo Antiglone sent me to my assigned chambers and took off.
Destruction. Destruction accompanied by Death was approaching us at full speed.
Zuko and I should not have come here. Pacing back and forth in the chamber, I tried to calm down my nerves.
The doors to the chambers were pushed open suddenly. Lily stepped inside followed by Lara and Mary.
The moment I saw them, I found them running toward me. Lily forgot all resolve and engulfed me in a relieved hug.
I was fine. They were fine too.
Everything would be easy as long as we were together.
" My Princess. I am so scared. We should leave this Kingdom at once. Dark King's Army won't leave anyone alive. " Mary voiced out our worst fears and I pulled back from them gently.
Now, it was my turn to act as the Princess I was. Even if my heart was drumming in my ears due to fear, even if my body was shivering in dread...I had to stand tall and dignified.
" We don't show our backs to the enemies, Mary. We will fight till our last breaths. " I declared and Mary, Lily and Lara bowed their head one by one.
My words were enough to console them but what about me? My brother was definitely going to war and my betrothed was going too. My ladies-in-waiting were in this dangerous situation too.
My whole world was going to crash down in a few hours and there was nothing I or anyone else could do to stop this destruction which was riding toward us on the horse called death.
" If the enemy threatens our dignity, our self-respect... " I trailed off, my tone softening as my eyes shined with tears.
Lily stepped back, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes. Mary and Lara followed suite.
They knew what I was talking about. I didn't want to say this in harsh words but they still understood it well.
We could never let the enemy take unwilling pleasure from our bodies. We could never let them force us down on our knees. Never.
" You all have your rings. Protect yourselves. " It was all I could say to them.
Save your dignity, your self-respect by taking your own life. Die before you were ever forced to be on your knees. That's what our positions required from us.
The powder poison in our rings was enough to kill us in a moment. It was one of the strongest poison in the world.
" My Princess. " Lara spoke up, grabbing my attention and a lump formed in my throat.
" We will serve you until our last breaths. It's an honour. " She affirmed in a grim tone and a sad smile pulled up at my lips.
" Till death do us apart, my friend, but I promise, I will not let any of you die before me. I promise. " I promised in my authorative tone and their eyes went wide.
Lily nodded toward me. It was a gesture that I was doing good. I was acting as the Princess I was always supposed to be.
" Now, I must go and help my brother in wearing his armor. " A part of my heart died as I announced to them and moved past to go toward the door.
Taking a deep breath, I opened the door and stepped out, followed by my ladies-in-waiting.
Madam Alina was just standing outside the door. She was a loyal servant of Royal Family of the Kingdom of Keragania and thus, she had the highest status in the servants here. She was a old woman with a fat build. Her face was wrinkled and her dark eyes shone with knowledge.
I lifted my chin as I walked toward her gracefully. Each step I took was heavy for me but I made sure to make no sounds.
" Take me to Crown Prince Zuko's Chambers, Madam Alina. " I demanded from her.
" As you wish, My Princess. " She bowed her head and began walking in front of me.
I followed after her with light footsteps. I had to make sure my shoulders never drooped with the weight they carried over them. I had to make sure I never trembled in front of anyone to avoid letting them know that I was falling apart.
The walk to Zuko's Chamber was long and horrible. My worst fears were coming alive. The night was slowly fading away to let the terrible morning welcome our death.
When I reached Zuko's Chambers, Madam Alina stepped away from in front of me. I waved my right hand in a dismissal gesture. " Leave me alone. " Madam Alina curtsied and took steps back without letting her behind face me.
Lifting my chin, I knocked at the door and stepped in the chambers when the doors were opened from inside.
My eyes instantly found Zuko who was being helped by the helpers in wearing his heavy battle armor.
A lump formed in my throat when he gradually turned to me and his eyes met mine.
Brother. My heart reached out to him.
" Leave us. " He commanded and everyone scurried away hurriedly, leaving the ties of his under armor leather, unstrapped.
Detaching my eyes from his, I marched to him and grabbed those straps before starting to tie them. I had gotten him ready for battle many times before. Dark King's Army had never made it to him. We had managed to push them back.
Everytime, I felt the same feeling of dread and nervousness in my heart but this time, I knew this was serious.
King Luca was sick and Crown Prince Kylo Antiglone was also sick with Love. I had judged him when I met him earlier. He was love-sick. Duty was nothing for Crown Prince Kylo Antiglone.
All these circumstances were enough to scare me. We were going to lose this war and there was going to be devastating bloodshed.
After tying his straps, I strolled to the heavy red steel armour. I failed to pick it up alone. Zuko stepped forth and helped me picking it up. We both fitted the armor in place on his body and I stepped back to admire him.
I was proud of my brother. He stood straight and tall in face of every single calamity that befalled us. He was brave and capable. He was the best King our Kingdom could ever have in future.
" Kiara. " He whispered softly and my eyes snapped up to meet his.
He spoke as a brother this time. He knew what he was doing. He knew it could be the last time, he got to talk to me.
" You will come back. I know it. " I whispered back, a tear slipping past my eyes.
Zuko sighed heavily and stepped near. He raised his hand and wiped away the treacherous tear from my cheek.
" I believe in you, Kiara. You are stronger than you can ever imagine. Stand tall and proud in face of every misery, My Sister. I know you can do this. I know you will make us proud. " It sounded more like a good-bye now.
Some more tears flowed down my eyes, breaking all restraints. I looked down, feeling the warmth of his hand on my face. It might be the last time I was seeing my brother. No matter how many walls we had between us, we shared the same blood. I loved my brother.
He leaned in to plant a reassuring kiss on top of my head and stepped away from me. He took his strong helmet from the table and wore it over his head. It covered his face but the red dragon etched in the bronze let everyone know, he was indeed the Crown Prince of Mylvania.
Without uttering any other word, he walked to the door in complete suffocating silence. His armor made heavy noise when it clinked. With each step he took away from me, I heard the sound becoming distant...This made me sigh out.
" Goodbye Brother. All my best wishes are with you. I wish you all the years of my own life. " I whispered to myself and the door closed after he stepped out, leaving me all alone here.
I stood there for the longest time. I was in a trance. In this silence and loneliness, I could be my afraid self.
The sounds of war alarm blaring in the whole Palace was what pulled me out of my trance.
He had come. Dark King Cassian De Kiligian's Army had come knocking at our doors finally.
