Kapitel 30: Coming Up for Air

Cyd was busy helping out her two aunts in the kitchen when the phone rang. Her mother hollered from the living room.

“Right on the dot! Get the phone, Cyd. It’s them calling again!”

Cyd sighed. Her mother was right. She has been back for four days, and she has been getting a call from her office in Brunei at around the same time every day. First, Hajah Seri called, asking for confirmation of a meeting that they had already arranged before she left for Manila. The rest of the time, Ben or Kevin called to ask for files and information on contracts they were working on. She was both pleased and anxious whenever the phone rang, though. She felt a little amused that they look to her for little things but felt uneasy at the same time, thinking she may not be able to help them at all as she was a bit of a mess when she left and found herself second-guessing her answers to their queries.

“Cyd, Ben here.”
