He had been visiting Franklin Blake to check up on the man.
Normally able to run into the other nobleman at the palace, Mattheus hadn't a reason to visit now that he dealt with all the office work at home. Any patient that he had to see at the palace, was usually a patient healthy enough that didn't need him specifically to be treated.
So he hadn't seen the assistant to the Chamberlain's Office for awhile—since Madam Blake's funeral, actually.
The younger Blake brother could be considered a friend to Mattheus. Or at least a friendly acquaintance. While Mattheus now was at a tense impasse with the Lord Chamberlain, in which they mutually ignored each other at the moment—that had nothing to do with Franklin Blake, who was completely professional in his work but also firmly part of a progressive family.
