The handsome merchant sobered slightly. "'A warning'?" he repeated with a slight frown.
"Yes," Mattheus affirmed. After a beat, he added. "And a suggestion, I suppose."
Jack tilted his head as he contemplated the nobleman before him. The merchant was not exactly unused to the aristocracy. The Vengulls, Mattheus had learned, could easily have bought a title for themselves with their achievements and wealth. Instead, it seemed that the brothers chose the life of "commoners" rather than joining the aristocracy.
"Should we be sitting down for this conversation, my lord?" Jack asked.
"I come as a friend, Jack," Mattheus said in reply to the change of address. He tapped the cane a few times against his thigh before just placing it back in the Inventory, startling the merchant as it seemingly disappeared into thin air. "In any case, if I needed to meet you with all the weight of my titles and name… you would know."
