Kapitel 28: Meeting New Friends

"Hello." Paul said with a polite smile.

The light steel blue haired boy also gave a polite smile back, while the sakura pink haired girl gave him a curious look and asked, "Why were you looking over us just now?"

"I was just looking at the books you both were reading; it piqued my curiosity as the books seemed familiar to me." Paul replied calmly.

"Was it familiar to you, then?" The boy asked him while his eyes gave a probing gaze.

Paul curtly nodded as he replied, "I've read both of them already."

"That's good then. It seems we have more common topics to discuss. I'm Steven Stone by the way." The boy- Steven stated as he held his hand out for a handshake.

'Oh… that's why he looked familiar.' Paul thought before he responded, "I'm Paul Crimson. It's nice to meet you." He finished as he gave a firm handshake to Steven.

After the handshake, Paul looked at the girl and asked, "And you are…?"

"I'm Amber Rose. It's a pleasure to meet you." The girl gave a bright smile as she also gave her hand out for a handshake.

Paul gave her a light handshake as respect, before kissing on her knuckles which made her blush. "It is more to my delight to meet a beautiful girl." He muttered before dropping her hands and smiling back a little brighter.

"Another gentleman, that's quite lucky of me. I have two of them here besides me." Amber smilingly said albeit shyly.

"Hey, it's a man's basic manners to be kind to a pretty lady. Don't you agree, Steven?" He asked in a friendly sarcastic tone.

"Oh, Amber. Sure, she could be a "pretty" lady." Steven smugly replied.

"Hey!" She shouted as she slapped Steven on the shoulder. "Ouch!"

Amber then looked at Paul as she accusingly questioned, "Just earlier you said I was beautiful, now you're being sarcastic with me being pretty!?"

Paul quietly laughed as he answered, "Well, it isn't good for us to have a princess syndrome, don't you think?"

"I agree." Steven replied before Amber had the chance to do so.

"Great. You two are already making fun of me at the first day of classes." Amber replied with a glare as she folded her arms.

"That means me, and Steven would be great friends. What do you say, buddy?" Paul asked as he put his arm over Steven's shoulders.

Steven smiled as he also put his arms over Paul's shoulders, "I think so too. We look like we'll be best of friends, isn't it Amber?" He appeared a little bit too smug as he looked towards Amber.

"Hmph! I'll just report to Mr. Stone that you're being mean to me again." Amber replied as she arrogantly averted her head.

"Then I'll just say to Ms. Rose that you're being such a princess again." Steven bluntly stated as he folded his arms, a knowing smile on his face.

"You're childhood friends?" Paul curiously asked as he saw their interaction.

"Well… you could call it that. Her mom works for my dad, but as she's still young, Ms. Rose always brought her to our house. Thus, I was forced to see her almost every now and then." Steven finished with a sigh.

"Hey! Why does it look like you're disadvantaged! I was forced to see your snobbish face too!" Amber replied with a scowl.

"Calm down guys. Our classmates are looking at us." Paul whispered as he tilted his head towards their classmates.

Amber and Steven gave a little nod and just turned their chair towards Paul as they quietly took a seat.

They chattered then, now a little more quietly, about the books they were reading. Ten minutes before seven o' clock, when classes would start, a five-year old boy with platinum blonde hair and electric blue eyes sat at the seat beside Paul. The classroom is almost full, though, no one sat near Paul as they looked like they were a clique. Thus, few seats were left, including the one besides Paul. The boy gave a kind smile as he said introduced himself to them.

"Hello! I'm Jake Azure." He introduced before pausing as he yawned, "I'm just a little bit sleepy, sorry. Usually, I wake up before lunch." He stated before taking a seat as the others introduced themselves to him. "What were you guys talking about?" Jake asked with curious eyes.

"We were just talking about the Restoration of Fossil Pokemons currently being developed by the Devon Corporation." Paul presented their topic to Jake.

"Oh, your dad's company?" Jake motioned his head to Steven.

"Yeah…but, how did you know?" Steven asked.

"Oh, business gatherings with my parents. I saw you a few times. I wasn't able to see Paul though, despite your parents being quite famous in those gatherings too." Jake replied as he looked at Paul.

Seeing Paul's questioning gaze, Jake immediately spoke, "What? Your parents are famous, and it's said they have a child with striking red hair and ruby eyes. Its also in the circle, which my parents told me, that you'll be enrolling at Pokemon Trainer School at the age of 3, which is cool, by the way. You said it yourself, you're a Crimson, which is a dead giveaway." He finished explaining.

Paul slowly nodded, while secretly being shocked that he was also mentioned in the business gatherings his parents attended. Remembering his parents' proud and doting expression when they thought he wasn't looking, he immediately realized that it was to be expected.

"Wait, you're 3?" Steven and Amber asked in unison, with both shooting him surprised looks

"Did I not mention that?" Paul slyly smiled.

"We didn't need to ask! You look like a five-year old, like us." Amber said as she shot Jake a questioning look, who also nodded.

"See." Amber emphasized when she received Jake's affirmative nod.

"Well… I never thought that my age was that important. Aren't you guys also a bit too young, enrolling at the age of 5?" Paul changed topic.

Amber rolled her eyes at the change of topic, but nevertheless, still answered him. "Uh… I'm actually accepting a scholarship. Thankfully, the #1 on the entrance exam declined the scholarship thus I was able to get it, who's #4 on the exam. It's just so boring at the house, with my mom always busy, I initiated to tell her to start on my schooling early, as I know I can handle it."

Paul looked at Steven, who answered right after, "Well, It's the same as her, as my dad is being busy with the company. I understand that, though its really suffocating at the house, even with the Pokemons there being my company. I'm #8 on the rankings, by the way."

Jake, who was glanced at by Paul, told his reason. "Uhm… I have no reasons like that. My parents said that I was too lazy so I should go out and go to school for me to have something to do. Luckily for them, unluckily for me, I was barely able to enter the school as I'm the #25 on the rankings." He finished with a small helpless laugh.

Paul, Steven, and Amber, laughed a little at Jake's story. The latter three then looked towards Paul, who hadn't told his story yet. "For me, It's okay being at home, as I already have a tutor who teaches me. Though, I really wanted to try having Pokemon Battles and Contests. Seeing the curriculum of the school from my tutor, I immediately convinced my parents to try and enroll me here. Not mentioning the Beginner's Class, where we could meet different Professors, and that we could meet high ranking Doctors and occasional visits from Nurse Joy who would teach us at Doctor's Class. It was a bit too tempting for me, so I really wanted to go to school here. Thankfully, with my studies, I was able to score high in the exam." He finished with a little grin.

"Why didn't you mention your rank? We all stated ours." Amber asked with a huff.

"Well…" Paul hesitated to answer.

Amber countered, "Is it low?" Paul shook his head.

She continued, "Is it high then?" Paul nodded carefully.

"Why won't you answer it straight to the point… Oh!!! Don't tell me you're that #1 who declined the scholarship!?" Amber exclaimed as she spoke out her guess.

Paul was quite surprised at Amber's spot-on guess, though he still nodded while scrunching his nose.

Steven, Jake, and Amber stared at him, amazed. Silence enveloped the quartet for a few seconds before Steven spoke up, "My dad told me that the #1 on the rankings had all perfect answers! Even all the bonus questions. Yet I was only able to have 30 from that portion. Is that true?" He asked inquisitively.

"Yeah! I've heard that too, because my mom and I were surprised that even with my perfect scores, I was still unable to be part of top 3. We asked the proctor regarding the scores above mine and was surprised that the #1 got it all correct! I was just able to get 35/50 from the bonus questions!" Amber immediately asked pressingly, without Paul being able to butt in.

"Wow, you guys are amazing. I only got 5 points from the bonus part. I really didn't study well. Thankfully, I have good memory thus was able to get an almost perfect score in the exam proper." Jake said with wonder.

"Why don't you let me speak first?" Paul asked as the three continued to speak without him being able to intervene. The three gave him an apologizing look as they kept quiet so he could answer their question.

"It is true. I really have good memory, like really good, and I was interested in Pokedex entries as long as I remember. So, I guess it was luck that It was the bonus question portion this year?" Paul asked hesitantly.

"Luck isn't an option. I think it's your skill and intelligence. Congratulations!" Steven said with a smile. Paul replied to him with a happy grin.

"Wait, doesn't that mean that you're the one who declined the scholarship, so I was able to get it?" Amber asked Paul, finally realizing who was her indirect benefactor. "Wow! Thank you very much!" She threw herself to Paul as he bobbed his head at her question.

Paul was surprised at Amber's embrace, but he hugged her back, nonetheless. After settling down, they chatted with each other for a few more minutes before the class bell rang. That meant it's the start of classes.
